Just bc 99% of the game is a prticipation medal doesn't mean the final 1% which is endgame is as well. The game just does a bad job at communicating it, so people still feel entitled to keep getting rewarded for subpar play.
Yep, and there is SSS trials in-game to imply you should be doing this X amount of damage in this X amount of time. That's technically a parse, the game just tells you if you passed or failed. Most people just brush it off because there is no reward for killing the dummy.

A lot of good players love to see themselves and their group improve, as the end result is rather satisfying, being able to clear content that matters. Instead of spending 20-50 hours in a party finder with people who are barely passing grade.

I'll say this much for myself. FFlogs and parses are the reason I went from a grey parsing WHM in SB to getting all purples and a couple or oranges on SCH. It's how I knew I needed to improve because somebody with a parser was telling me everything I was doing wrong, and is why now I have gotten purples on my first clears for e1s-e3s so far, and here's hoping it's the same for e4s when my group gets that down.

Parsers themselves are not evil, and if used correctly, they are a great tool for self improvement.

Make SCH great again! Seriously though, we just want our class to be fun and engaging again, not OP, is that too much to ask for?

I don't think SE really cares about damage meters as long as you are not using them to attack people...I mean go to twitch and look at any streamer they are all using them for the world to see.

Plug a USB keyboard into your ps4. You can even get a mini USB KB that will let you type on it one handed.

There was a guy here that posted on the OF. They logged on and found themselves in the jail. Reason being: Mentioning that they were parsing when someone asked them to upload their logs in between raid runs. There was no harassment or bullying as far as we know. It only takes a petty person to report you for your account to get flagged.

Best you can do is to take the parser convo to either your private LS or external groups like Discord.

I wish SE could support official parsers, though. Reports for harassment would still be a thing and people would get banned/warned anyway, like they are now.

Healer parses..lmao. Please stop. Why is ig every time I see someone boasting about parses it's a healer? Don't get me wrong healer DPS is important in savage content but y'all have like 1 or 2 damage skills at most.

I didn't make it past page 2 or 3 because the OP said this community is terrible. Couldn't disagree more. Out of all the MMOs I've played over the years, FFXIV has one of the best. Yes, there are some bad apples, but on the whole it's a good community.

Now, on the main point, I agree, damage meters are stupid. Precisely because of what the OP described. Coming from WoW back in the day, damage meters were used in leveling content. Like, in pugs. Which is really, really, REALLY stupid. Leveling is where people are learning how to play. Even if you're a veteran you might be leveling up a new job you're not familiar with. Hell, even if you're playing your main, you still might make a mistake because you end up getting a dungeon you haven't run in years and you simply can't remember it. (Points to myself repeatedly.)

Damage meters are used to grief in all of the above situations. But to be perfectly honest, I haven't personally seen it here in my entire time playing. I've been called out a couple times. One was by a tank who was totally in the right. He noticed without using a damage meter that I wasn't using like, half my abilities on my BLM because I was trying to save them for boss fights. So, situations like that are fine. I've should have been playing better.

But usually they are just used to grief.

Wouldn't a good healer parse imply they did somewhat well at healing too? Unless the other healer was carrying all the healing themselves the high parsing healer still needs to keep everyone alive for that dps to even matter anyway. If everyone lives, they healed well. If they healed well, they should have downtime. Downtime= DPS. It wouldn't be "can they press these buttons" so much as "can they balance mp/healing/dps all at once". I cant imagine anyone would really brag about a parse on a failed run anyway.

Oh nice. I appreciate you undermining my hard work. And you'd be shocked at how many bad healers there are. Is it easier to get a high parse on WHM vs DRG, probably. That doesnt mean there isnt a lot of work and planning that goes into it. Not to mention healing is the one job where my parse can get screwed over because someone else didnt carry their weight. Being a good healer is all about knowing where you can and cannot get away with not healing, as well as knowing what your co healer will heal vs what you're going to heal.

The dps rotation might be simple (which I honestly hate how simple they made it this expac. I want every single dps ability they took away back) but getting high parses takes some work.

Having a competent healer who avoids overhealing and pushes out as much DPS as possible speeds up kills much more then some might think.
