Considering XI is still getting updates, that might take some time.
I realize it’s easy to blitz through content here in comparison to XI, but it being a mainline FF game, it’s hard to see them let it go.

Im probably moving on if they make an XIV sequel otherwise hard to tell yet~
I'll probably keep playing, in my experience with other MMOs a lot of the QoL and patching up outdated content seems to come in the twilight years and by then it'll mostly just be devoted fans of the game which I feel will be better for the community overall.
I played FFXI up until they stopped releasing expansions (and just played casually coming back once in a blue moon when I felt the itch to play and solo to 99) and to re-enjoy the storyline. But otherwise, I don't play it at all and can go years before doing that. FFXIV will have the same effect. I already stopped doing endgame because the game doesn't provide what I want with the gear system and horizontal progression. So I'll probably still play it once in a blue moon later (if it's still up and running), but by then, I'll have moved on to hopefully a better mmo and never think about looking back lol.
I mean, unless the story ends up necessitating our visit to other reflections of the Source.20 years? No way the game engine will be way to outdated. I give it till 7.0. On top of outdated everything the story has to end. It's a final fantasy game not a new season of One punch man, we cant just find new incredible super enemies. It becomes dull the second I realize there is no end game and no matter what there is a new "baddie" and its piss poor storytelling to boot.
I hope the very last expansion and end of the game is another calamity like Dalamund that we didn't even notice in the sky (the original was a speck in the sky before it became big enough to be seen everywhere). Bahamut comes back and is like "YALL THOUGHT YOU KILLED ME. LOL. SIIIIIIKKKKKEEE" and the whole server explodes. It looks like a 90k message that pops up on your screen, but with strange letters and numbers, and Louisoix face is just there smiling next to the 90k message icon.

If they're gonna stop updating the game, then they have to stop asking for subscriptions too and make it buy to play. In that case, yeah I probably will.
But judging by the state of FFXI, that won't happen anytime soon, if ever.
I will never leave this place.
Man...Im still Dreading that day...
I put SO many hours and so much money into this game, it will be a sad day when it does eventually Reach its Final Endgame.
I think Ill still play, at least a little bit.
I don't even think 7.0 will be the last expansion, please don't misunderstand my post. Why do you think "no more content" is planned after the next expansion? It's standard practice for the development team to "develop content up to a year in the future" but that doesn't mean that what they have currently have planned is now all that will be added to the game, and that's all they will ever do. They will continue to release expansions and new content for as long as the game makes money and players support it.
You only have to look at FFXI which despite only having around 200000 player accounts by 2010 (when FFXIV 1.0 launched), it still got a number of 'mini expansions' at that time and one full expansion before SE announced it's storyline was going to be 'completed'. And even then, that didn't mean the plug was pulled. It's still in operation, is still making money for SE, and because of that, there has even been rumours floating around a lot lately about SE actually considering a new expansion in time for FFXI's 20th anniversary of launch in time for 2021 or so. The same will be for FFXIV.
Yoshi and his team might be tired with the current storyline/setting and it's emphasis on the Primals/Ascians/Hydaelyn/Garlean Empire, and be wanting to take the game in new directions, but that does not mean the next expansion will be "the last" and the game is shut down after that. Maybe if FFXIV was still in a 1.0-type situation with dwindling interest and problems both technical and managerial that might be valid, but that is not the case now. No, FFXIV ARR is going to continue for many, many more years yet. And I will continue to support it for all that time (I still login to FFXI after all) - if I put up with the worst aspects of FFXI for years, and was with FFXIV 1.0 when the axe came down, I will do the same with FFXIV ARR.
I appreciate the detailed reply, in any case.
I have no hidden agenda here - I'm just melancholically curious as to how everyone may have plans for the end of their time in Eorzea, same as I would for people's time on the Earth itself.Same formula as has been since 2.0.what exactly is the point in this thread out of curiosity as you already know how they roll with patches every expansion?
If its what i suspect it is and an attempt to draw SE's attention to release content faster its not going to happen. As it is it looks like's they are tight pressed for time with releasing the patches due to how much the new races have set everything back.
Aside from class adjustments, I actually really don't wish to pressure SE for further development of FF14.
Heck, I still love messing around in HeavenSward content.
