You've got it backwards though, it's not the SCH skill names that need to change it's the SMN ones. SCH's theme is combat medic, using poisons both offensively and defensively. Players have always stated that Arcanist fits better as a base for SCH over SMN, since they basically had the same theme. Had SE moved away from this by "renaming" their upgrade skills, similar to WHM, than I could see them moving away from that theme, sorta. But the fact that they have Art of War and Biolysis shows otherwise. Even Broil fits that motif, though not many people realize. It's not a "fire" spell, I'm throwing my "Flamboyant Speech" at the enemy and making them submit, lol.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

Call me cynical but I can’t see SE ever taking something away from a dps class to give it to a healing class. Hence why SCH lost a bunch of arcanist moves while SMN keeps all of them.

They even got to keep physick, which is literally worthless on them, but we couldn't keep the half a dozen useful abilities we had as ACN.

Make SCH great again! Seriously though, we just want our class to be fun and engaging again, not OP, is that too much to ask for?

I wasn't meaning it as take things away, but when they upgrade. SMN spells should upgrade to skills that mimic summons. Like maybe upgrade the DoTs to something to represent Ramuh and Shiva; Surge and Rime maybe? On the flip side please have Ruin II upgrade to a different skill. It'll do the same thing but please purge the Ruin line from SCH already.

Hah, thanks for that headsup. All this time I've been thinking Broil, as you said, to cook or burn. Then it's very fitting along with Adoloquium, Lustrate and Excogitation. To a sense "Ruin" also works alongside "Biolysis" (had to look these up) as both refer to "breaking down" something.

There is some joy in the skillnames and I like the motif both as a scholar verbally both capable of making someone feel and fight better and also berate a monster so bad they take damage and fight worse. I imagine as we Broil the monsters hear something to the tune of "Your fighting is weak, uninspired and flat as a pancake." Then still capable of applying spells that slowly break them down over time on a cellular level. Why I liked Leeches as Scholar's debuff-remover.

For SMN, it feels weird they still got two dots on the same duration. Those could be made to make room for different primal effects. Momentarily summon someone to apply a spell: A Shiva ice spell, Ramuh lightning, Ravana slice, Bismarck body slam.

Yeah, Broil in Japanese is 気炎法(kienho), which is a combination of the kanji for spirit, flame, and method/act (like the act of doing something). But the first two combine to make the word 気炎(kien) which means High spirits/big talk. So the transtalion for 気炎法 could be read as either a literal transtalion Spirit Flame Art, or Flamboyant Speech, the later of which fits with SCH's motif, but the former sounds like an attack, so it's a play on words in Japanese. They were able to do this in English too by using the word embroil, which means bringing someone into conflict, usually through speech. They were even able to keep the "flame" aspect, which is probably why the animation looks fiery.

Now in English they just change the number, but in Japanese they change the first kanji, with Broil II being 魔炎法(maenho), and Broil III being 死炎法(shienho) with the kanji for spirit replaced with demon and death respectively. Unfortunately, 魔炎 and 死炎 aren't words on their own, but the series follows the same logic as most spells, were they change the ending (fire, fire, firaga, firaja), but in this case it's the first character that changes not the last. So it helps establish a theme, like your talks are getting more aggressive.

Funny thing, 炎(En) can also mean inflammation, and is used in several medical terms as well. That's why Japanese wordplay is so ammusing.

And yeah Ruin still fits but since it's more engrained in SMN I wish they'd fix it, it seems odd SCH having an Arcanist leftover.

So I just "realized" that Art of War is 蠱毒法(kodokuho) and basically means poisoning art... WTH SE, I mean yay, but also, huh?
