If you'd asked me this same question 10 years ago about WoW I would have said yes. But it's not even hit that point and I already unsubbed.
If you'd asked me this same question 12 years ago about Guild Wars 1 I would have said yes. But's been a few years since I logged in.
If you'd asked me this same question 12 years ago about City of Heroes I would have said yes, but even now that's unofficially back I've not gone back.

    So...

    Who knows. I don't.

Depends on how the new mmo if there is one will look. If they go into some hyper realistic style then I will not be moving on to the new one. I like this artstyle we have now. SE keep the anime look you've known for please. but honestly I think this game needs an offline mode. If they do that I'll play forever.

    I'll play something else.

Same thing with Guild Wars 1, I just moved to Guild Wars 2 and I didn't liked that so I just moved to other stuff.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Considering WoW has been doing it for 15 years, It will only end when SE makes the decision to do so.

I don't think any major company is going to risk it with another MMO. So as long FF14 works SE will stick with it.

    I probably will tbh.
I've participated in several online games up their closure, and I intend to do the same with FF14.

I will probably let my house get destroyed, how ever.

To clarify, I don't think this game is anywhere near it's sunset era - I just occasionally ponder how that time will be when it occurs.
Why do you think "no more content" is planned after the next expansion? It's standard practice for the development team to "develop content up to a year in the future" but that doesn't mean that what they have currently have planned is now all that will be added to the game, and that's all they will ever do. They will continue to release expansions and new content for as long as the game makes money and players support it.

You only have to look at FFXI which despite only having around 200000 player accounts by 2010 (when FFXIV 1.0 launched), it still got a number of 'mini expansions' at that time and one full expansion before SE announced it's storyline was going to be 'completed'. And even then, that didn't mean the plug was pulled. It's still in operation, is still making money for SE, and because of that, there has even been rumours floating around a lot lately about SE actually considering a new expansion in time for FFXI's 20th anniversary of launch in time for 2021 or so. The same will be for FFXIV.

Yoshi and his team might be tired with the current storyline/setting and it's emphasis on the Primals/Ascians/Hydaelyn/Garlean Empire, and be wanting to take the game in new directions, but that does not mean the next expansion will be "the last" and the game is shut down after that. Maybe if FFXIV was still in a 1.0-type situation with dwindling interest and problems both technical and managerial that might be valid, but that is not the case now. No, FFXIV ARR is going to continue for many, many more years yet. And I will continue to support it for all that time (I still login to FFXI after all) - if I put up with the worst aspects of FFXI for years, and was with FFXIV 1.0 when the axe came down, I will do the same with FFXIV ARR.

That's a big factor. With the gigantic cost to actually make one. They already have one right here, and contrary to popular belief it looks pretty great compared to everything else out there in the genre. An mmorpg has to appeal to a wide audience so super high graphical fidelity shouldn't really be at the top list for this genre. This game could definitely use a big upgrade when next gen comes out though.

I thought things like SWTOR were going to go into maintenance mode like 4 years ago when I quit, and they are still pumping out expansions, and I have been left in the dust in the story. I don't know how the rest of the game is doing content wise. That's an EA game too.

I just hope when they eventually do replace this game they don't pump out some live-service cash grab casual trash that seems to be the norm nowadays.

I don't think i'd play any mmorpg on maintenance mode, cause the point is upcoming content. That is why you sub.

If i had to play one in those conditions i'd play SWTOR cause it's the most fun to play mmo to me. But even that gets boring once i run out of things to do.

Doubtful, since I am an active player I would have done everything there is to do when I reached that point.
I'd probably tend to kitty now and then if the game was F2P but I doubt I'd fork over a sub fee for a game in which I've already seen everything.
