Will you still be playing this game when it inevitably enters maintenance mode?

I don't think any major company is going to risk it with another MMO. So as long FF14 works SE will stick with it.

That's a big factor. With the gigantic cost to actually make one. They already have one right here, and contrary to popular belief it looks pretty great compared to everything else out there in the genre. An mmorpg has to appeal to a wide audience so super high graphical fidelity shouldn't really be at the top list for this genre. This game could definitely use a big upgrade when next gen comes out though.

I thought things like SWTOR were going to go into maintenance mode like 4 years ago when I quit, and they are still pumping out expansions, and I have been left in the dust in the story. I don't know how the rest of the game is doing content wise. That's an EA game too.

I just hope when they eventually do replace this game they don't pump out some live-service cash grab casual trash that seems to be the norm nowadays.

I just play it for the story and it's been enjoyable for me. I just wish they would set a date already for the expansion coming NEXT MONTH. (At least, I haven't seen a date on their website or the game launcher.)

I actually really want to go back to that game, and do it just for the story. I enjoyed it a lot while playing it. Probably one of the best MMORPG stories, or at least the way you can interact with it, there is. I did all the class storylines and loved them before the big expansion, umm the one where... I'd have to look up the name. I quit a little after the new storyline came out, with the new empire or whatever.

I tried awhile back to play it, but the game is so clunky, and I felt so... despite having a fully decorated house, tons of stuff, cash store items, etc. I felt like... really disconnected. I couldn't get back into it, probably the memories holding me back. That was my main game for years, and I made a lot of friends (and enemies) on there. I really miss those days, PvP booming, people talking, the server community everyone knew everyone else. Really good times...

I don't think you understand what maintenance mode means.

FFXI is clearly in maintenance mode, and even that game is still producing bits of endgame-tier battle content here and there. It more refers to the end of storyline/quest production, which we're obviously still not at yet.

Yeah, this game is definitly NOT in maintenance mode. In fact the devs are doing so much they can barely keep their schedule, according to them. I believe them on this one too.
