Will you still be playing this game when it inevitably enters maintenance mode?

After the last expansion releases, and no more major content is planned?

    I probably will tbh.
I've participated in several online games up their closure, and I intend to do the same with FF14.

I will probably let my house get destroyed, how ever.

To clarify, I don't think this game is anywhere near it's sunset era - I just occasionally ponder how that time will be when it occurs.

I still went back and played LoTRO even when it was clear WB had stopped caring about the game and before it got sold to Daybreak. I still had fun with SWTOR even though up until recently it wasn't sure if the game would ever see a proper expansion again. I will likely still be here even as the game slowly peeters out and it's fanbase moves onto bigger and better things. I enjoy it more than enough to stick around.

Given SE's track record there will be a new FF MMO coming at around the time it goes into maintenance, I expect I'll be moving on. Once the story is over I don't see a lot to keep me playing.

I will still do some stuff casually at that time. I think when the community shrinks and everyone knows each other it gets more friendly, less ragey people around, so it's a different kind of experience that's better in some ways despite content production slowing down.

We're 9 yrs out from V1 now and I'm guessing this game has about a 20 yrs lifespan of updates. Sounds like a lot but I think this game is a special case and there's the precedent of S-E still supporting FF XI right now with minor content updates 17 yrs after launch (so far) and with a planned transition of that game into a new mobile version in the future. The way S-E support FF games it might outlive me lol.

With the way the game is designed probably not to be honest. Mainly because content is short lived. So when it does go into maintenance mode I will have done more or less everything.

I will most likely move onto their next mmo when this one releases its final expansion... as long as it is not a mobile game.

I'll likely be moving on after finishing the story for the last patch of the last expansion. Probably would be another Final Fantasy MMO by then to tempt me away too.

If there are people to run contents with, then I can keep playing. There are contents I haven't done and may never do as long as there is something new to try, so might as well try to run them when there is no more new contents.

20 years? No way the game engine will be way to outdated. I give it till 7.0. On top of outdated everything the story has to end. It's a final fantasy game not a new season of One punch man, we cant just find new incredible super enemies. It becomes dull the second I realize there is no end game and no matter what there is a new "baddie" and its piss poor storytelling to boot.
