Since we are on the subject, anything with seeds is a fruit. Bananas are fruits without seeds, because they are clones. Check it out, it's very interesting.

They are worried about there not being genetic variation in the world's banana population to survive a super-disease if one should attack.

Like Cucumbers, which are in the same family as squash (cucurbits)

A cucurbit is also the lower portion of an Alembic... tho I don't know how Alchemists view Pumpkins.
