Profanity Filter and OCE Data Center

Yeah hi so I was here to ramble about two things

First off, how come there's now harsh chat rules despite the fact the use of a profanity filter that's not only built in game, but enabled as default? In order for someone to have reported it, they would have had to willingly disable it, yaknow?

I think it should be a bit more lenient, maybe if you had disabled it you acknowledge that there's gonna be some foul language. Not to say that slurs used against people in an aggressive sense, but if someone uses language to describe something like "Oh man this is f*cked", yaknow?

Secondly, when is the oceanic region gonna get their own data center? The reason Tonberry on the JP data center is so bogged down 24/7 is because it's basically the 'go-to' place for an entire region, go look at the thread/post count compared to everywhere else on here and it's kinda yaknow.. bloated.

Not to mention the ping difference, you know? Given how many people are from Australia and the surrounding areas, I think it's kinda justified in us getting our own at this point, since more and more people are flocking to FFXIV over dead MMOs' like WoW and stuff.

Anyway that's my ramble over, I'd like to know what you'd all think.

    Ps

On your first point, maybe if players toned down the sailor-talk a bit, then they wouldn't have to be banned, with or without the profanity filter. It might be considered 'hip' and 'edgy' to sprinkle swear words in every sentence like sauce over a particularly offensive cassarole, but it's not condoned socially, either in a formal setting or in a social game. Especially for a game that has a 'teen' rating in the US which FFXIV does. So SE is getting more stringent with in-game player behaviour.

As for your second point, SE considers Australia close enough to Japan to not bother with 'Australian' servers, so I don't see this ever happening (and I say that as an Australian player who plays on a US server). Believe it or not Australia's player population is not considered high enough to warrant the expense I'm afraid.

Reminds me of a little story I read in a philosophy book:

A bunch of boys decide to swim naked in a river. An old lady that lives in a house right next to the swimming spot calls the policeman because she feels disturbed by the naked boys right in front of her house. The policeman tells the boys to please move a bit down the river so the old ldy won't feel disturbed anymore, and they do. 20 minutes later she calls the officer again, telling him that she can still see the boys from a window on the 2nd floor. So the officer tells them to please move away a little further still so the old lady won't feel disturbed, and they do. 20 minutes later she calls the officer again, telling him that she can still see them with her binoculars while sitting on her roof.

Moral of the story: People will go out of their way to get offended. Even if they don't witness stuff personally, just knowing that someone somewhere might be doing something they don't like is enough for them to go on a crusade.

In today's society every one that wants to feel "offended" will find a way to do so. You could try your hardest not to and still offend someone, it has gotten extremely sad to see people get offended over anything and everything.

Lol at everyone making it about being "offended." There are still internet regulations companies have to follow.

The rules aren't new, being offended is irrelevant when you're not allowed to use profanity per the User Agreement and you should probably edit your post as the example you provided is still in violation of that rule.

I agree, the rules against profanity are a bit ridiculous. It doesn't even matter what the context of interaction. For example, if I'm in a farm party for something and I accidentally die to a mechanic because I was dozing off/losing focus and I type "...oh sh*t" as a joke, technically I can be reported. It's ridiculous. I understand the need to try and prevent harassment and slurs thrown at people, but sometimes it comes off as some weird puritanical attack when someone gets upset at a tame, self-deprecating joke I made about myself.

Maybe a system autocorrector of profanity so the rule can Fruit itself.

This is why people barely say anything other than "hello/thanks for the party" in PuG's.

Special snowflakes/crybabies gonna report you the moment you slip and drop an F-bomb, don't even think about commenting on their performance, that's an insta-warning/ban from the GM's who don't have the backbone to tell them to stop crying and grow a thicker skin.

I really hope i'll be proven wrong, but imho what will kill this game is not making it over-simplified as many believed, but giving in to the tantrums of the crybabies.
I mean what's the point of the game being an MMO when it promotes staying silent whenever you are in a group or around other players.

P.S. I wonder how many of the said crybabies/snowflakes will report this post cause they deemed it "offensive".
