    Fame (not the musical)

The last time I had read anything on the topic of whether they will be introducing a fame system to FFXIV, I want to say Yoshi P. had mentioned they were thinking about it. The system for side quests and when they become available to you now is based on what level you are.

For those of you that don't know, the fame system in FFXI determined when side quests in each city would become available to you. Each city had its own fame system, and the only way to gain more fame was to do smaller sidequests and repeatable quests. I have no desire to do 250 repeatable quests that have me turning in 400 pieces of La Thiene cabbage, but at the same time, I thought the system itself was a wonderful way to view lore and make the world I was in feel more alive.

With the guilds in XIV being in different cities, I think it would be awsome if they added perks to having high fame in each city. Possibly have it so, once you have a high enough fame in Ul'dah, the Alchemy guild offers you cheap crafting materials they would not have normally. (I MISS BUYING FINE SAND FROM NPCS ) The hamlets as well could each be tied to the cities they are outside of, and the quests there could affect your fame in multiple places. IS everyone happy with the side quest system now? Would you like to see this sort of system introduced?

I'd rather not have fame and just have tiered quests or quest lines to be honest. If they can have fame work without needing to grind for it I'd have no issues though.

Agreed. Also having NPC's address you differently depending on your level of fame was a nice touch that would be cool to see here.

Yeah, just add more quests that help you start out building fame. Like I said, if I have to travel to some far off Hamlet to trade some jackass npc 400 pieces of diremite web for a repeatable just to get more fame, then skip the whole thing. I did like how certain item quests (like some of the ninja scrolls) were tied to your fame. But I HATED doing the repeatable quests to build up enough to get it.

I liked fame in FFXI and would welcome it in FFXIV with no "hand in 400 stacks" type activities please... I like the idea that as you become more well known more people ask you for things and lower prices or other types of benefits. The GC offer stuff based on your rank but a separate system for the common townsperson would be cool.

    Oh, I hate that sh*t!
The last thing I want to see in the world of Eorzea is stupid kids having drama attacks because the teache- oh.

So, with this Fame system you can earn more Fame from sidequests.
What was this value used for? Like Fame Points I suppose, that brings you commodities in the city?
I would be totally on for this! And you know what? this brings me an idea for this Fame system to be really good:

    Fame: 0/100
You are traited as a foreigner by the people around the city. They'll see somebody who don't know and can be suspicious of anything, an unreliable person. (Pretty much how it is right now =D)

    Fame: 40/100
You are traited as a citizen by the people around the city. They'll see somebody of their neighborhood which they can have fun, a more reliable person.

    Fame: 80/100
Traited as an adventurer who helped its people in their jobs and duties, a reliable person for any circumstance

    Fame: 100/100
The hero of the city, somebody who should have a statue on its honor, because you did so much for the citizen that they would do anything to applease you.

And with this system the dialogues of the NPCs will change, being more friendly fame state after fame state, and new side-quests will unlock, maybe something more adventurous to do, anything that gives us something about the story of the city or anything like that.
Also like you mentioned, it would be great if the shops will cheapen the prices or add even more products to buy.
    Now this is great!

I really got loved feeling like I was really well known throughout my home city. It made my sense fo national pride increase, which I think is something this game is really lacking right now.

And yet they still couldn't remember me after I had saved the world four or five times over.

Yes! thats an awsome idea. Or even have it so the various guilds all have seperate fame, so that you have to find people that work at the alchemy guild to do quests for around the city to build up your fame for them. You could become famous in the Gladiator guild by fighting in the Arena. This was spot on what I was talking about. Good stuff!
