I don't think that's how that went.

IIRC Cylva was never trying to kill them. She actually wanted them to kill her, a very un-WoL act, thus keeping the balance just below the tipping point. Primed for rejoining without actually flooding. Ardbert and Co. refused to kill her and instead went off and killed the ascians, tipping the balance and opening the floodgates.
