I think it would be fine to have one ring slot with a "visor" option to cycling through display options. (Both hands, right hand only, left hand only.)

I think he was saying it would be “easier” to remove a ring slot than to make the other change.

to streamline gear and free armory space yeah, remove belt and 1 ring (and even job stones) and reuse space for more slots on other gear types
If I were to do things I would have 1 ring for stats and roll the stats for the second ring elsewhere.
That second ring slot can remain for fun things and little extras that have no battle value. Like the eternity ring, A exp boost ring, Ring to give additional resources in DOL professions, Ring of retainer summoning. Ring of 0 cost teleporting. Ring of Aura glamour, Ring of random NPC communication. (where random NPC's whisper you asking random things.)
While in the middle of a fight:
Alisaie Leveilleur: Sorry I know you are in the middle of fighting a primal, but what kind of cake do you like?
Alphinaud Leveilleur: I got word that you are in the middle of (insert dungeon name), but I need an opinion. But do you think Mrs. Chi would be offended if I dye my coat green?

I'm all for second ring slot going away. Always been most pressed for ring space in armoury chest, which is weird considering you'd think rings would take the least space out of anything in there.

Rings aren't just a brick of stats. They're also cosmetic. Removing them reduces the amount of appearance customization.
Do they need to remove belts/rings for this? Belts and all other accessories are already the least used armory space in my experience... Oh and off-hand, we basically have 35 slots for Paladin + 11 gather/crafter jobs... Really putting that space to good use...
The armory chest in general could just do with a rework... Don't have 35 slots for head gear, 35 slots for body gear, etc. Just make it 420 (heh) slots for gear. Period. Not 35 slots for 12 types of gear, if you want to carry 36 weapons and 34 gloves? More power to you. Essentially the same as how Glamour Dresser space functions...
I throw my hat in for keeping the second ring for this reason alone.
Honestly I always thought it was potentially cleaver design to have rings as they are anyway... It's a minor way to encourage people into raiding...

I would suggest to remove gear whatsoever. Just turn every character into Super Mario, put a Mushroom in and differentiate only between "Big Mario" and "Small Mario". Sounds like the most balanced way to turn your game into a simplified garbage fest - which btw ultimatively killed WoW.Waist equipment slot have always been in-between accessory and armor. But now that accessories have VIT, there's very little difference between the two.
So when SE touched on maybe removing the additional ring slot at this past Live Letter,

I thought it would be a good opportunity to make the waist more distinguishable by giving it higher stat weight and an additional Materia slot to make up the loss of the 2nd ring.
I prefer this idea to simply replacing the ring with another type of accessory. What are your guys thoughts?
