Expert roulette! My boyfriend (BLM) and I (PLD) are already exited because we got The Twinning, a dungeon we have only run once since the roulette insisted to put us into Amarout so far. We get paired witha WHM and this RDM.

I've made it a habit to do a quick check on everyones gear before running off to pull stuff - there is no point in pulling big if we dont have the gear to handle it. I know that my boyfriend and I can, so the second dps doesnt matter much, but habit.
The WHM looks fine, might even have the Titania-weapon, I'm not sure anymore - but gear-wise all good, no reason not to go big here!
The RDM... the RDM is still in leveling gear. Stuff from all previous leveling dungeons, ilvl 400-418 at best. I really, really thought this wouldnt happen anymore with the new system, but nope... here we are! I guess I shouldnt be surprised - I mean, to get your jobset you have to walk aaaaall the way to Grenoldt and isnt that such a bother?!
Anyways, I'm kinda confused by this and ask this RDM if he doesnt know that he can get a jobset from Grenoldt? The RDM is now standing still for the next 2 minutes until we get an answer: "no, I didnt. thx." I'm extremly annoyed, but since he wasnt rude about his response, I'm willing to carry on (and him).
Thanks to my pocket-BLM I also continue to do big pulls, I know the stuff will die - and, as we notice, it really doesnt matter that the RDM has bad gear because even in groups with 6 mobs they're using their single-target rotation... until told otherwise by us. So at least hes listening...?

At this point I check his profile: Every job is at least level 70, his WHM is 80, his BLM 78... this is someone who must have been playing for quite a while, never figured out when to use AoE-skills and thought it was completly fine to enter a level 80 dungeon with leveling equip...

To be fair, you have to do a questline for your role first and it isn't even shown to you under the main story quest as a visual finger-pointer like the previous jobquests up until level 70. So if they are new and without seasoned friends to point those things out for them, they may have just missed the questmarker in Crystarium.
Even if they did it once for the MSQ and get their gear for the first class, they may have just missed that there are more questlines for other roles and/or that every other jobequipment will be available at Grenoldt as soon as they hit level 80.

So yeah, they probably did the healer-questline, got the healer-equip.. and then never started the caster-questline while leveling the RDM, because they never knew about it. At least that what be my benefit of a doubt.

Well, thats why I looked at their profile, to figure out wether or not they were new. I'd hardly call someone with all jobs at 70 or higher "new" - would you?

I would have been more understanding of someone who only had their WHM and RDM at 80 to not know how to get proper gear or that you're supposed to use your AoE-rotation on groups of 4+ mobs.
This was someone who somehow managed to stumble through the game on all jobs without grasping the basics of gearing up and casting stuff that hits all of the mobs infront of them.

While it doesn't excuse the not AOEing-part, new to ShB is enough to not know stuff in ShB (in this case: where to get your i430-equip). Heck, I didn't even know that there is a level 80 jobquest (to get a title) until a friend of mine pointed it out to me.

I dont want to turn this into a huge discussion, but let me just say that so far every expansion had jobquests, that the mainstory tells you that there are jobquests for all different jobs, that the healer-jobquest starts in the same location as the other ones that you've been told about and that the MSQ told you about the jobset and how to unlock it.
Someone who has leveled all jobs to at least 70 should have also stumbled over the fact that there are jobsets for all jobs... putting 2 and 2 together shouldnt be that difficult here.

But I guess the game is still not doing enough hand holding for people like this RDM who must have put hundreds of hours into the game without understanding some basic principles.

Not trying to make excuses but you can just buy lvl skips to 70 in this expansion which also includes skipping job quests. So having all characters at 70 doesn't really tell anything about his playtime (unless he also had DoH/L at 70 of course)

Leveling PLD through Malikah's Well. Got WHM, SAM, and BLM, so I thought "Great, they have good AOE." so I pulled the first 2 sets of mobs. After 20sec, I noticed the adds were still somehow above 50% health which is odd and it took us another 20sec to finally kill all but one. The WHM was spamming Holy while keeping me alive, so it's not their fault.

I started pulling small after that and tried to see what the DPS were doing. I'm not expert of SAM but I know enough to tell that they were doing fine.

Now the BLM though....

Their AOE rotation was Freeze > Freeze > Freeze > Fire II > Fire II > Flare > repeat.

I don't think they had Enochian either, letting their Astal Fire expires between pulls

While for the boss, their rotation was Blizzard > Blizzard > Blizzard > Blizzard IV > Fire till oom > Convert > repeat, sometimes casting Foul in between.

They responded to chat so not bot, which just made it even more awful that they could get to the lvl without knowing an ounce of their job.

So yesterday my fiancee and I made an interesting discovery.

We were doing E2 Normal when her net cuts out (more specifically, her ethernet cable is broken and it popped out). While she is still disconnecting, she gets targeted for the stack Spell in Waiting mechanic.

I don't know why, but neither of us really thought about what would happen with the marker (which at this point had about 10 or so seconds left on it) once she disconnected. Would it pass to someone else? Would it fizzle out? Well, it did neither of those things. As soon as her character model disappeared, the stack detonated immediately from where she was and killed 3 people.

Had a bad day a few days ago. Had to do Ala Mhigo, died to the second boss because I didn't react fast enough to cure myself. Then died to the last boss because again, health got low and didn't react quick enough to heal myself. Had to do Royal Menagerie afterwards. Died to the active time maneuver because I accidentally toggled the chat, wondered why it wasn't working and thought "did I react too late" only to notice in my chat was "flkfkljsdhfjksdhjkdshfjshdfsdfhsjkdfhsjkdfhjskdf" but by then it was too late and I died.
