Tales from Duty Finder: Some make you laugh, some make you cry. Let's vent.

So, uh... wow. Is it just me, or has the quality of the duty finder plummeted recently? I've been grinding like a madwoman to try and get all the DoW classes to Lv80 for the title, and I've basically seen nothing but nightmare parties around every corner. This one from a couple days ago popped out the most to me, though.

So I'm working on Dancer now. Lv61, no biggie! I'm too low-leveled to get stuck with the jump potion users up in Holminster Switch who don't even know how to press half of their buttons, let alone perform their roles effectively. Plus these dungeons are easy, so this'll be fast... right? What could go wrong?

I load up the first dungeon, Sirensong Sea. I get a DRK buddy, a SCH, and a RDM. The DRK is a sprout, speaks up that this is his first time here. Okay, that's alright. This is an easy dungeon to start off with, and the boss mechanics aren't too hard. We'll probably be stuck with single pulls, but oh we—

Wait, what the...? The tank made the first pull and INSTANTLY died? What the hell happened!?

And that's when I take a peek at the top left corner of my screen and see the dude's HP.



WHY DOES THE TANK HAVE HALF OF MY MAX HP!?

More baffled than upset, I inspect the dude... and he's wearing gear that would have been outdated at the end of ARR. All normal-quality Lv50 stuff.

So uh... I like sprouts. I like helping people who are new to the game. That is the SOLE reason I didn't instantly try and kick this guy. He should have been getting gear left and right from past dungeons and the MSQ stuff, and he just... decided not to equip it.

The SCH is a trooper, says that we'll press on anyway after I put my unfortunate discovery into party chat. Queue the most painful run of Sirensong Sea ever: The RDM and I constantly ripping aggro off the severely undergeared tank (EVEN THOUGH HE HAD TANK STANCE ON), and us tanking the bosses more often than the DRK because their untelegraphed tankbusters would INSTANTLY kill him.

After a series of long, painful pulls and countless deaths, we clear. The tank says "GG" and leaves.

NO. NO, NO, NO. THIS IS NOT "GG". THAT WAS A FREAKING TRAVESTY. PLEASE, PLEASE UPGRADE YOUR GEAR! FOR OUR SAKES, AND THE SAKE OF EVERYONE ELSE IN YOUR PARTY! YOUR DPSES TANKING FOR YOU IS NOT OKAY.

This is the standard state of DF. People are just noticing because they are doing more roulettes than just Expert. Also I feel some people have forgotten how to operate in low level instances. -PSA: because its under level 71-80 doesn' t mean its unsynced. I see a lot of this mindset lately and it leads to many an unnecessary wipe. :\

Tanks, please stop being allergic to my Earthly Star. Had a tank in Titania normal move themselves AND Titania outside of my star range after I placed it. :/ My annoyance cannot be expressed in words ATM.

Leveling up PLD via roulettes I got Rabanastre. I main tank the first 2 bosses, my healers are busy eating glue so I regularly have to clemency but I honestly don’t care. We get to Rofocale and suddenly the WAR thinks he is main tanking? He pulls off me 2 or 3 times until I’m just fed up and let him have it. Rofocale gave that WAR the what-for with “crush helm” on his unprepared idiot tank self and rekt him. I pick the boss back up and laugh to myself as I trample over that guys corpse.

Today was my off day.
First Aurum Vale where the tank died in the first room because I forgot that I didn't have Benediction there. Stupid mistake, usually doesn't happen as I know well which skills I have for which dungeon. The rest went okayish on my part but I still made some mistakes like continueing with Holy when there was only one mob left or healing super late because...idk... spacing out? And I ate the Glower from the Coincounter, followed by Eye of the Beholder. That ..doesn't usually happen. Not even when others have debuffs to dispell or need healing. Didn't die but still. Oof.
Next was Baelsars Wall, some people twitched with the Extreme Caution debuff and of course got slammed into the ground. I could've easily salvaged it if I had reacted sooner, instead we wiped. Though two people failed the mechanic I still hate it when I know I could've easily avoided the wipe but didn't react.
And then there was Susano, where I didn't pay enough attention to see the three puddles neatly stacked right under my butt between all the shiny effects in time to run out - SPLAT. Instant death. Susano's telegraphs are the epitome of "IN YOUR FACE" and next to impossible to miss, but I managed. The rest was okay but my pride definitely took a knock with that instant death.
And last was Shisui, where the tank died during the first pull because I forgot to lock my hotbars, accidentally switched skills and...well... Benediction wasn't where it's supposed to be. Nor Tetra. I had about two seconds to panic and then SPLAT.
Tank and I went in as a premade. A lot of random Tanks make far more and worse mistakes than what I did but with his gameplay being on point and mine somewhere between "headless chicken" and "turret", I felt even worse for all my fails.

Reset day. Queue for all the Edens, I just need pants. First two runs, I'm on SCH and my co-healer was also a SCH. We were pretty much in sync and kept overwriting each other's stuff. Got annoyed so I switched to WHM. Guess what class my co-healer was. WHM! Last run too. At least WHM's spells stack. And I did a 92k Misery. That was nice.

Decided to run my roulette as WHM for tomes. Nothing too crazy. Got Holminster for leveling. They were at the first boss gate. Said the last healer had a 290 book. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and said they probably didn't touch it in two years. They said there other gear was good and was like, yea. I ran a couple roulette as a AST with a 310 Globe and 400 everything else. Nothing relevant, but still it's easy to not notice. For the record my SCH and WHM both had 400 weapons going into ShB and didn't look at my AST until I hit 71.

It is definitly easy to notice. Do people just not look at their gear when they click 'recommended'? I don't know about you, but I actually look over all my gear to see if it's good enough, or if I accidentally threw out something. I don't think not playing in awhile is a good excuse, or should be an excuse made for others. Rather, they should learn to read.

Got The Burn and the usual suspect Mist Dragon causing trouble. The healer was new so struggled to keep up with the healing and walked in to literally every aoe and attacked the boss in mist form, resulting in a lot of rescues from ice blocks. The fun part was the BLM was also new and throughout the entire dungeon you could tell they only just played the job for the first time, rarely any Eno uptime, too many Fire I/Blizzard I casts and slow to react to mechs. Of course they didn't have the New Adventurer icon or anything and I really did think they were a bot for a most of it but it wasn't till the first words they muttered after we wiped for the second time on Mist Dragon, "lol not the best dungeon to learn how to play BLM". So those two, trying to survive on PLD Clemency and the SMN doing their best to Raise the constant dead it took nearly 50mins till we got out, so yeah that was fun....

Zoned into Titan normal for my levelling roulette with 2 friends. Got matched up with an archer of all people watching the cutscene as if he's new to the fight. Checked his search info and he unlocked bard but for some reason didn't use his job stone.
