The housing situation in FFXIV is both insulting to the players and a shameful blight on Square-Enix.

There is a very simple solution, but, oh gee... it might cost some extra server money...

ADD MORE HOUSING DISTRICTS! AND GET RID OF THE #@!@#$@ing TIMER!!!!!!!

I would love new housing wards and a new district as well. I just wonder if SE would be able to keep up with demand as the playerbase gets bigger. Maybe instanced upgradeable plots would work better, something like apartments that you can upgrade over time.

Do you know S/E install the timer only because of the player request from this exactly same forum? This timer gave more people a chance for the house because it let more people know that there is a plot available

Maybe change it to a random draw. Once the house falls, there is a random time that people can come to it and put their name in the pool. Then it picks one at random. Then that person has x amount of time to complete the purchase and if not it draws again. Could also limit the number of houses you can put your name into, so as to keep people from just spamming all of them. Maybe also limit the number of houses people can purchase in a month to limit re-sellers.

Perhaps a bit over the top, but I definitely agree. I've been playing since before HW launched. I've thought about getting a small house on more than one occasion, but I'm glad that I never bothered. This game's housing system is cancer and most certainly not worth the frustration. Worse still are the people who buy up hoards of plots and/or brag and belittle others here on the forums, though they shall remain unnamed. Though they do remind me of one of my favorite characters. Akira Toriyama modeled him after people just like them...

I agree with you. This system is just the worst thing EVER! I've been at this for 3 weeks now. This morning after servers came up 6 plots opened and I was first at one plot for 4 hrs and no one showed. I kept wishing hoping it would unlock but it didnt and people showed up. We stayed at the plot half the day talking a spamming. 6 hrs in a random guy runs over and was like " you guys wanna see something funny?" And relocated his house and ran off calling us losers. That pissed me off. Ok so at this point 4 plots are still open. Two more get lost due to relocating sooo I find one in beds with a few people waiting. Now I checked plots in the morning and saw that this was up noticed I said in the morning. WE HAVE BEEN WAITING AT THAT PLOT ALL DAY AND STILL ARE WAITING AND ITS THE NEXT DAY WTF!!! PLZ FOR THE LOVE OF ALL remove these timers!!!!! These timers literally have players waiting alllll day just spamming where b4 we could just walk up get the plot and continue playing. I HATE THEM

It's hopeless. Spent hours waiting on a plot just to have some relocate their house.
This system needs to change.


Add more instances so we can have more housing for everyone, or make it so that there are other means of planting seeds and performing the tasks needed.
It's 2019 and we're still dealing with systems from ages ago.
The excuse to hide behind "It's ARR code" is long over.

Your story does not make any sense. If that is a relocation the available plots would still be the same number not less

It was to combat people re-selling houses for inflated prices, not to let more people see a house was available. With the random timer someone can't release the plot and let someone else walk up and buy it. I honestly have no clue why SE thought allowing relocations to bypass the timer was acceptable, as all the housing sales just became relocation sales (or FC sales). Personally, I didn't think anything was wrong with the previous system. People with excess gil could buy houses from other players at premium prices while others had to watch aetherytes in the cities. It wasn't ideal, but nothing about our warded system is.
