Twin Snakes shouldn't even be a maintenance buff. It should have a different effect or just a normal potency skill like True Strike is. MNK already deals with maintaining Greased Lightning as a flat damage buff, then it has Twin Snakes on top of that. It's redundant for the current direction they're wanting to move jobs in and feels like a dated mechanic.

For reference, Monk now does two True Strikes in a row before refreshing Twin Snakes, since it's finally been brought up to the GCD speed it should have had a long time ago. You want to use Twin Snakes as few times as possible or your damage will suffer for it, but you also still have to maintain the buff. It's reminiscent of keeping up Yukikaze slashing debuff on Samurai in Stormblood.

But to answer your initial question, there are forbidden tools you can use to keep track of buffs like Twin Snakes, ROE, and other things that could be like having a job gauge if you know where to get them. (I am not advocating this, only saying they exist)
