I kind of doubt they're actually paying them for 5K+ accounts on a weekly basis and it's more likely they're making fraudulent charges with stolen credit cards.
The amount of gil they'd need be selling just to break even from that would be utterly ridiculous.

Eh, you can also get the actual plant from subs now. Its been pretty cheap prior to Tuesday because its used in an older flying mount, and seeds are a booby prize for higher level airship ventures. The bed came out on Tuesday. It requires mats that take 120 hours in real time to grow via gardening.
The bottleneck for the bed is the lumber, which is from newaquapolis.
Prices for Cloudsbreath will likely end up plummeting down to below last weeks prices as soon as we figure out the new crossbreed(s) for it (The one it has doesnt recur, so its a mediocre crossbreed unless its all you want).
A 5 day grow time for seeds is on the short side, by the way. Most higher end crops are 7-10 days.

Does it matter who pays? At the end of the day SE is still making money.

If they do. Most people simply pay their balance due, and only throw up a red flag when they go over their limit.
Debit is a different story, but banks tend to have better services for detecting irregular charges. I know mine is pretty damn draconian about it. Not that I complain though.
What constructive thing is to be said about RMT? Just don't ez pz. Although I do enjoy their presence making the MB barons a bit uneasy about their sales.

They don't just pay for one account with one card. They activate AS MANY as they can with each card and before the initial free month is over the character is maxxed out and the gil from the leveling and gatherbotting is moved. People wouldn't find an extra 10 dollar charge, but they'd need to have hundreds of card numbers and constantly cycle through them. Easier to just use databases of numbers and just keep going until the cards start declining. You will know if your card number is compromised. This isn't a long con. Then the card gets cancelled/reported, the charges all reverted and the cycle repeats again. If they do. Most people simply pay their balance due, and only throw up a red flag when they go over their limit.

"Ma'am... have you made a large purchase online recently?" "what kind of purchase?" " 300 copies of a video game from Square Enix yesterday?" "... No?"
This isn't some sort of scheme where SE is gleefully raking in money from compromised cards, they're invested in stopping gilbots because it COSTS them money. Mad subscribers, actual people returning the game because they don't want to play on lagged servers. Capacity being used by non-paying customers.
There is substantial loss in it for SE.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
All I see you saying is that people are pricing things highly and this is... somehow a problem?
An item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If it's priced too high, it won't be sold. If it's sold, then it wasn't priced too high.
Just the same, if things are selling for such absurd prices, then new players can make absurd amounts of gil very easily.
This is literally not an issue.
3-5m? Just the lumber alone (that you need 3 of) sells for 5-6m a piece on Odin. If it's so easy to get, and simply just overpriced, then get to work on setting that right. Be the ethical capitalist you want us to be.Look at the new bed mount, in reality with a few PF you could get the mats and be done with it. Overall I see that being worth maybe 3-5 mil maximum but since prices are relative only to the wealthy they sell for 70 mil and of course people buy them amongst themselves, alienating newer players who dont have the time for multiple map runs, thus it's a time= money but in a reasonable scale. Just because 70 mil is reasonable to a rich person doesn't mean its reasonable to a average player, also reason doesn't scale upwards.
Right I explained that people are over valuing there time. Just because you accumulate said wealth doesnt mean prices of things are relative to your wealth they are supposed to be relative to the economy. This is called gentrification. The *difference is* that in ff14 a credit card swipe can fix that problem and you can feed your impulsive need to own a item quickly and feed the over-valuation of peoples mind set. Thus I suggested a tax, tax the rich more and remove gil from the economy. This will lower prices across the board and give better access to to it themselves.
RMT is the problem and this isn't capitalism its neoliberal and is only made worse with the ability to inflate the market. In real life this isnt a huge problem because I cant buy more dollars or euros. I can only spend what I earn and thus companies price things as cheap and as affordable as possible. This is economic 101.
My solution is a Tax, tax those that cause inflation, bringing down overall prices and making RMT less of a allure. It's pretty simple economics and you can see the problem between haves and have nots and uncontrolled inflation, a point we are reaching in the game with no active gil sinks.
