Judging by how busy the servers have been ever since ShadowBringers' launch, as well as the last month or so leading up to it, it seems like the game likely is doing quite well. A big advertising budget could certainly be a factor in that.

It's nice to see so many players, but I just wish SE had anticipated it well enough to support the volume better, without having to lock so many servers for congestion issues.

I question this due to being curious on how much of this is owed to bots. I've played for l5 years and have never left Midgardsormr. In all my years have I never seen the botting element so massive as it has been as of this expansion. I've taken into account that some worlds have always had bots going around in vast numbers but it's never been so many seen as there are now, from my experience.

While bots are probably adding to congestion, the massive crowds I've been seeing around Gridania and Limsa, as well as just out in the wilderness, are for the most part too individualized to be bots. We really are seeing tons of active players lately, including in particular a huge influx of new characters (though I can't tell how many of those are new players -- I've been playing a new alt myself lately).
