Same honestly, It has me curious about what's going on. Could just be different servers in different countries, so I won't shrug the problem away since I don't experience it. But yeah, in the UK never had a problem launching the game through it and keeping the connection.
Touch wood.
I don't believe this is true, because it would be completely counter to Square Enix's ability to make as much money off their expansion sales and subscription sales as they possibly could. It's not anything to do with Steam though. The Steam Subscriber Agreement still says:
Back in March SE originally said "In order to align even more closely with Steam policies...". I then asked Steam about it and they had no knowledge of what was going on. After I posted that information in the big thread Square Enix quietly updated the post to the current "As part of our fraud prevention measures..."
Steam aren't enforcing this change, Square Enix are.
So you can say it's our own fault for buying it on Steam, but if Steam didn't require us to run their client when we bought the game and they still don't require it now... how are we not supposed to be upset that SE is selectively penalising users who bought it on that platform?
Here's the reality: By doing this, Valve gets to start forcing collection of its 30% cut on not just expansion sales, but subscription fees. A friend of mine who's account was through Steam, but had been paying for his sub through Square, recently returned and found that Valve is now requiring him to pay his subscription through Steam Wallet, not Square's Mog Station.
Translation? Steam gets a cut.
If what you say is true, that would be Square pushing this through to only lose 30% of all revenues on subs for any copy sold through Steam. That would be the most blundering business move ever, and I doubt they're that stupid. If anything, they'd want to keep that for themselves.
This is what happens when you have a Marketplace Monopoly like Valve has; they can pull off anti-consumer moves like this and get away with it. I'd agree with the notion that if things go sideways, there should at least be an option to purchase a second license through SE itself.

You can literally read it in their statement on the Lodestone/launcher:

The very first line is "As part of our fraud prevention measures..."
Sorry, but that is just not true. In five years I have never had to pay via Steam Wallet. It's actually the only good thing about being on Steam as you get all the usual payment options (credit card, time card code, etc.) as well as the additional option of Steam Wallet.
This part we do agree on!![]()

When I went to buy a name change on the mog station the other day it was pushy about wanting me to use the steam wallet. It was still possible to pay via credit card, but it really made me jump through hoops to select that option. I am rather worried that the change on the 29th will lock out other options of payment. You can literally read it in their statement on the Lodestone/launcher:

also i'd like to point out there's already a thread about this:

no need to make a second one

I think it might actually be down to what country you live in possibly. For me in the UK just trying it I get:
Sorry, not sure what to suggest.
To be honest, the thing that's annoying me is that we have multiple people play FFXIV from the same computer, one has the steam game and the other the PC version. Now we will have to have two separate installs of FFXIV to play rather than one - which is actually just stupid and pointless. SE should allow people to buy the windows version of the game on steam accounts and convert.

I heard there are very uncommon issues with it, like hard to find with google, then the also rare server connection issues. Beyond the license lock, making it so you can't take part in some purchases (which sometimes, I've heard, makes Collector Edition/Physical purchases fun)- I think its mostly people just don't like to be forced to do something that seems really optional, like why do I need to be online to play X offline game.. It shouldn't annoy me but it GREATLY annoys me and I have internet connection 99.9% of the time (to the point I'll fight the system if possible lol).Same honestly, It has me curious about what's going on. Also I've heard people use steam verify on accident (causing big redownloads and stuff xD).
Personally I like buying games from the source (give them a larger cut of the money) unless the deal is too good to ignore, but even then I'd never buy off steam for FFXIV because I don't like being locked down (just the concept gives me "bleh" feels). Like I'd probably block software and do whatever I need to make an always online game work offline, if it's possible at least.
I'll knock on some wood for you too though, :P.

Huh, I will say this is one situation I literally never thought of.To be honest, the thing that's annoying me is that we have multiple people play FFXIV from the same computer, one has the steam game and the other the PC version. @WorldofNeil, I'm in Australia. I get the same page but when I hit the cc option it would prompt me to sign into my steam wallet. I had to hit cancel, it threw me back to the same screen hit cc again, then popped up a dialogue asking me if I wanted to pay with steam wallet, I hit "don't pay with steam wallet" then it took me through to the credit card payment window. It was odd because last time I bought something optional it didn't do that. When ESO had this change I actually had an optional sub, ZOS charge my CC and then steam also tried to take my sub out of my wallet. So I was double charged. Unsurprisingly ZOS said it was valves issue and valve said it was a ZOS issue, I didn't get a refund and I didn't get the extra time added to my account. Since then I've not kept a single cent in my steam wallet, and never will again.
