PETITION: Regarding FINAL FANTASY XIV Steam Version (Mar. 8)

Srsly SE dont do this. You would not be the first one to ruin something beautiful as FFXIV with such BS. Dont give Valve/Steam more control over your game than you absolutely have to! like a lot of other concerned users in this thread you can see how less they care about ESO and other games they have to help "maintain" for access. It would only hurt you in the long run!

I personally have only bought 2 games off steam and those are not online games. I have 2 questions though:

1. If the application is so poor, yet you need it to talk in chats with friends, then why buy it from steam in the first place if you dont launch the game from it???
2. I never understood why you could not just add a PC version to the account with steam. Was there an explanation for that?

1. The app is not needed to talk in chats with friends as far as I'm aware? Unless we're talking about voice chats and, even then, there are other applications for that. Over all with XIV, until this change takes hold, Steam was not at all needed. Many of us bought the game on Steam prior to SE making it clear that Steam and standard PC keys were at all different. Once HW started pre-orders SE began making it clear there was a difference.
2. As far as I know, no there was no explanation for this. It's a weird and confusing thing SE just has done as far as I know.

Now that this topic has surfaced again, I think it bears repeating that as a result of this change, many XIV Steam users will be inconvenienced come Aug 29th.

If converting the licenses is not possible, please split PC Steam and non-steam licenses in order to give Steam users of XIV the option to buy separate standalone PC licenses so that they can choose how they want to play on PC. A perfect example of this is that PC and Mac licenses are currently two separate licenses. While it will be initially irksome to some, I think it would be a beneficial change in the long run.

It's even worse when you consider what happened to ESO when they did this. ESO steam users need to constantly maintain a connection to the steam auth server as well as the ZOS one. The steam auth server for ESO regularly goes down and Valve doesn't care to fix it. I made a thread earlier asking for a conversion from Steam to PC for Steam users with more details about the depth of the ESO Steam disaster there.

The issue comes back to something ESO did earlier with the authentication needed to bypass the log in and stay logged in. However, once FFXIV gets into this same method, because Steam authentication goes down so often (including its maintenance on tuesdays), there will be often times where you log in, and instantly crash to log out because their servers are inconsistent and do not patch or update properly to stay enabled and working in normal fashion.

Take this, apply it to XIV. The issue has not at all been fixed or even mildly alleviated. Both sides blaming one another that it's the others fault.

I own two accounts, and bought the second because I was able to play both at once for the purposes of organizing RP events - having a character inside a venue and one outside doing announcements, that sort of thing.

But because both accounts are tied to steam, I will now be unable to play both accounts unless I buy either a PS4 (for inferior load times, etc. and the inability to play in windowed mode and reference notes mid-event) or buy a second computer/laptop (an expense I can't afford).

I've been playing since 2.1, and my second account was made in 3.1. I have a long, long, long history with this game, and I have had zero disciplinary issues or troubles. I have done nothing wrong, but now I am being rendered unable to play my accounts simultaneously, which, again, is the only reason I've paid for two all this time in the first place.

I have already gone through Support - they informed me there is nothing that can be done by them. If I were to contact Steam and have it removed from my account, I would be permanently and instantly banned - according to FFXIV Support. Steam already has my money, and doesn't seem to gain anything from this to my knowledge. I want the ability to unlink one - just one! - of my accounts from Steam. I have been playing the Windows client so I can actually play the game twice (because the Steam client refuses to play the same game twice at the same time.)

I just want to be able to play the game the way I'm paying to.

Edit: I will literally pay to make my account Steam-free if that's required and I'm given the option. Please.

My friend bought me FFXIV on steam as a gift a long time ago, and I've stuck with it just because I didn't want to have to remake my character. Steam heavily slows down my old laptop, so I always have it (and pretty much all other programs) closed when I have FFXIV running. I really don't want to be doomed to the same fate as ESO... It was frustrating enough to have to buy Stormblood on Steam to keep up with my PC/PS4 friends who got Heavensward for free before Shadowbringers came out... I'd do anything to have the option to switch to non-Steam PC, other than, y'know, have to completely remake my character and re-buy everything......

Give us the option to add a Windows PC license to our account if you're going to do this. Many of us are tied to the Steam version against our wishes. If you can't be bothered to listen to players who are begging for a solution to an actual problem and force this change on us instead, I'm personally quite happy to go play something else. I'm not obligated to give you money each month, and if you're going to continue to ignore us, I don't intend to.
