Signed. I don't mind a Steam version of the game instead of direct SE Store version but I wouldn't want to launch Steam every time I start the game.
I feel like I've already posted in this thread before? Maybe it was another one with the same name? Either way, reiterating again that I support being able to get out from under Steam for good. The last time I bought a game from steam that wasn't an FFXIV expansion was two years ago. I don't want to have to keep reinstalling Steam just to get my CD keys out of it.
Maybe thick the box in the settings that says "do not download game updates while playing a game"?
Youtube or Discord uses much more bandwidth. My ping doesn't increase by having Steam open or not.
Also, if you just have Steam open in the library view it uses zero internet usage as all that info is saved locally.
Steam uses bandwidth (very low I might add) when you go to (or refresh) activity, community, library and store, and the store page is the only view that drains bandwidth while it's in 'non active mode' (minimised or when playing a game on the foreground).
The only other thing that will constantly drain bandwidth (and again very low) is the friend list (if you are signed in) and the service for notifications, voice chatting increases the drain of bandwidth but it's still very small and doesn't increase my ping ingame.
Sounds more like an issue on your part, the routing paths that are taken from your location and/or your ISP and the limit on your router.
I always have Steam, several tabs in Chrome, Discord, What's App, Fleep, Outlook & Twitch App's open while I play and I have zero ping issues in game.
Often (especially when I do MSQ roulette) I have Crunchy roll open and no issues with that either.
I can even have Netflix without issues (in 1080P mode), in 4K I have some small lag spikes sometimes.
Maybe other people in your household are using heavy bandwidth on your router and/or maybe you have a PS4, Xbox one or Switch in sleep mode, those devices have update games feature that can also drain bandwidth.
Wonder why people cry about it now. When there was steam release I've bought second version of game and addons to play from steam. And here and now "give me a key". Pathetic.
You bought a key for steam - run a game from steam. It's obvious. Don't want to use steam - buy the game from store and launch via standard client.
It may have to do with something about Steam not caring to keep their authentication servers running because of the lazy people they seem to be and when their servers don't work I can't play the game I'm paying for and then have to contact SE every time it happens to refund my time that I missed due to Steam. I just want to exchange the keys on my account for non Steam ones so I don't have to deal with this massive headache they are creating for no reason.Wonder why people cry about it now. If it were an option to add a PC license to our accounts, I may. However, I am not going to lose my character of 5 years because SE decided to make this change years after the fact.Wonder why people cry about it now. This. I'm okay with buying the license once more for every expansion if it will be possible to connect to my recent service account. I play for 5.5 years, spent 4100+ hours, have all event items since March 2014, bought tones of items on Mog Station and I'm not interested in starting from the scratch same as anybody else in this thread.
I still hope that they worked well on this system and we worry for nothing, but there is a reason for worrying and being annoyed about the change.
Signed, I can barely run FFXIV on my laptop while on business trips, I really don't want to have Steam running on top of that :/
