Because that could be too cheap on behemoth and too much on cactuar. Yoshi-P wants it to not cost too much but not be too cheap. The few things I buy have reduced in price because of cross world and everything I sell is selling faster and for more. It's much better.
Maybe for you.
On my server, things you used to be able to make a profit on are now selling for less than it cost to make them.
Change for the sake of change, which is all this is, usually doesn't end well.
Why would someone sell stuff less than their cost? Economy 101, Price = Profit+Cost. (there are cases you'd go for -ve profit but this is not it)
If someone's selling less than that then you buy it and resell it at a higher price.
This honestly shows that those complaining about the market board prices don't know what they're doing.

They're probably being sold by people who got the mats for free, by gathering, handing in tomestones/tokens or maps. I gather all my own items, so I always make some kind of profit
It already IS WoW. Didn't you know? This is common knowledge.
I can't hunt, luckily the party I grouped up with must have very fast internet(JP players) so I managed to get the full credit eventhough I only able to land 1-2 hit/s. Hunt mark just dissapeared amoungst the hundreds of players, I had all battle effect turned off too.
Common sense is not so common anymore.
Not directly relevant to FF14, but in Runescape most finished products have sold for less than the sum of the raw materials for a long time. This is because of power creep, changing playerbase culture/priorities, and oversaturation of lower level crafted items as monster drops in PvE makes the XP potential of the raw materials more valuable than the resulting product. Why would someone sell stuff less than their cost? That last bit, as others have pointed out, COULD be relevant to FF14, because raw material obtained for free may cause a player who crafts them to devalue the resultant crafted item.
Wild market swings like those caused by the introduction of cross-world can also cause this, if say the price for the finished product has stabilized across worlds, but the raw resources haven't yet. Though that should sort itself out in time.
Overall I support X-world balancing the economies. Reminds me of how when OSRS came out, people rapidly realized that having to scream in banks to sell items, and having the price vary bank to bank, world to world, wasn't as fun once the nostalgia goggles were off. The Grand Exchange was one of the first things from the main game to be reintroduced into the reboot, along with a few other things like GWD.
FFS, I'm getting tired of WoW being pointed out as the big bad Boogeyman.
It's as bad as the Millennial hate I keep seeing - and I'm not even in that generation.
Before long, we're gonna start seeing "Make FFXIV Great Again" hats.
I learned this the hard way. Back when I was still a new player, I didn't even know what hunts were and I came across and A rank which I was able to solo. Did I suddenly got a big chewing out from a lot of different players. Some went as far to say I should uninstall and stop playing, another even said that I was a blight.
Now many years later I'm part of several hunt LS's. In all this time I've never pulled and always wait with the pack for people to arrive. There's been several cases were people early pulled or even killed it before the majority arrived.
There's always a big backlash in /shout and many people angry and annoyed.
Sure it's a bit annoying but I'm just like 'oh well, up to the next one'.
But we definitely have the best community in this game!
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

I make my gil on Hyperion selling Silver and Mythril Ore - I mine for an hour and toss 3-4 99 stacks on the market.
The prices fluctuate, but normalize (usually) between 300-600 per usually closer to the former.
Yesterday I wasn't selling - Someone was dropping them for 200 - So what did I do? Bought the 200 stacks to resell at a markup - I still make a 100 per profit... That's just how business works.
