I dont really like how fights are basically identical every run but all the dodging is kinda fun.

I'm fine with it. I'm not difficult to please thought so there's that. I like what I have and nothing bothers me. If it gets too repetitive, I just leave it for a while and come back later when a new patch is up.
Whenever they tried something new, say Eureka for exemple, it all goes to shit, people spit on it and it's a nightmare. POTD was quickly called out for being 'easy leveling' so whenever someone came across a bad player, they'd be quick to say that they probably leveled all the way up in POTD. At least HOH was better recieved lol.
I played a few MMO and really, FFXIV is the best I came across. But that's my opinion and feels, I understand if others think the game's repetitive. Perhaps a little break would do the trick ? Or perhaps you gave what you had to give to this game in particular. Sometimes, it's just time to move to something different.
This debate will never die, everything will get old, every game ever is the same old thing once you play it for more then an hour. RPGs are even worst cause they live on being the same so people can come back to it after long breaks. Expecting XIV to suddenly change completely cause you're bored is silly. Tho I'mma make the statement if they did change it so wild to make people like you happy they would lose MILLIONS of subs cause nothing ould work like it used too. Hell look at how AStros and other were changed. INSTANT pissed. I don't mean to be mean but everytime this comes up people forget SE has made changes to the game. Eureka being one of the biggest, and tons of other things.
You'll never get them changing the battle system, it's unlikely for them changing how endgame works either. Changing those is too big of a risk to be worth it, so what can you expect? Small simple changes and new game modes like they have been doing this entire time that people seem to NEVER notice.
Don't misunderstand. I'm not whiteknighting.... I'm simply stating facts. There's a difference.

I can see how some people can get sick of the repetitiveness, but, as everyone here has stated, that's the general nature of not just MMOs, but a successful formula. The content and gameplay of XIV shows that it works.
Could it be better? Of course, there's always ways to make something better and SE has been doing that with this game with moderate success. They take out the stuff that doesn't work and try to put new stuff in. Think about every single one of your successful Triple-A franchises with all of their sequels and what have you. For me, the first thing that comes to mind is Devil May Cry. I've been a fan of the franchise for years, but examining it on a macroscopic level, I can acknowledge that the game is what's to be expected as it's the same game it was since its inception with gameplay tweaks and new features, maybe even a handful of new characters with a new story.
This is the standard philosophy of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Could FFXIV be better? Of course, it's not a perfect game. Literally no game is perfect. Does it have a successful formula? Objectively, yes.

I don't know, let's see.
Same "content" release schedule. Same tome grind. Same FATE grind. Same 2-3 trash pull then boss, 3 boss dungeon in a hallway design. Same "kill one boss" arena 'raids'. Same precise raid release schedule. Same artificial walls in zones behind MSQ. More "don't think too hard, we'll dumb that job down even more for you" design. Same 2/3 Expert grind roulette design. Same 450 tome/week artificial stoppage design. Same 1 token per week from raid design. Same copy/paste combat mechanics from the last 6 years. Etc. etc. etc.
Repetitive? I just don't see it.
Beside the tome grinds, which yeah, is repetitive, the rest is repetitive in concept, but in design and lore, it's different everytime. New dungeons, new monsters, new areas, new mechanics.I don't know, let's see.

I totally see your point, but I think it could be far worse than that![]()
I'm not really seeing what you're seeing so, no I'm not. I feel like I encounter new mobs and mechanic variations enough that it doesn't get boring to me. I'm also fine with my job's gameplay staying pretty much the same. Of course old school beat 'em ups and fighting games are a couple of my favorite genres, so I'm kinda raised on repetitive gameplay.Hi everyone. I’ve played the game since ARR and I absolutely adore the story and world of FF14, but there’s one glaring issue with the game that’s getting more and more apparent as it ages. The combat, jobs and general lack of innovation surrounding them is feeling pretty stifling at this point. When you boil the jobs down, many of them feel like clones or reskins with no customisation or innovation. Obviously it’s an MMO and that dictates how much or little they can really experiment without making jobs unbalanced, but they err so much on the side of familiarity It’s stifling. It just feeling so boring now and it’s really detracting from the game experience for me.
I’m struggling more and more to enjoy the jobs as the game gets older, what do you guys think?

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for keeping the discussion going, I’ve been pretty busy today so I’ve not been able to post. Either way it’s good to see people talking about it and sharing their views on it. It’s a controversial subject as it’s all fairly subjective to an extent, but it’s good to get some dialogue on it anyway. I’ve found a lot of things to keep loving about the game from a lot of you guys perspectives so thank you! I guess I just felt a bit disillusioned with the current formula, but I still love this game regardless.

Every game is repetitive honestly.
How many times do you fight the same troll "boss" in God of War? GAME OF THE YEAR
I don't think they can't make encounters random in this game due to how the combat system is. The rigid combo system, 2.5 GCD, and how buffs work in this game might not work well if the fight is heavy on RNG in terms of bosses mechanics.
