    Just remove Egis all together. Clearly the demi-summons are the fun part. Why would you need a pet constantly? You should be summoning things. Hence, summoner. Egis are just there for you to spam two buttons. The coolest part is summong Bahamut and Phoenix. Should focus on that aspect I think.

    Yeah. SMN could work in many, many ways, but the use of egi is the most boring concept of those usages, in my opinion. I would love to see them just summoning creatures for single-powerful attacks, like summons from FFVII or FFIX, or allow you to really change the way you fight with big summons (like the demi-bahamut) persisting for a few seconds.

    So I don't play summoner except when I wanted to mix it up in Eureka where it didn't really matter how poor you played with that many players hitting the NM. But from what I gather of the complaints it seems like the problem is that these pets don't function as an individual entity you interact with but as something that is attached to the SMN that reacts to you. I will probably be dating myself here but I played magician in EQ for a long time and the pets there felt like they functioned as its own entity that you buffed, healed, or in some cases took energy from. This thing in FFXIV just kind of sits there waiting for you to do something.

    Egi assult 1 and 2 are such pointless skills. There is no reason for them to have made us have to order our pets especially since there no no longer any reason to hold onto pet abilities for a particular situation. You are always going to press them if they are up so why not give use sic back?

    I honestly was really hopeful at launch but after playing the class to 80 I don't think the dev team will ever be able to make egis feel impactful. Hopefully they relook at the class (again) and realize that making us press more buttons for the same result is an upgrade.

    This is my current beef with the implementation of pets. Since the removed all the situational skills from pets and replaced them with "slightly more powerful than their underwhelming basic attack + crucial dps gain/recovery on a basic filler gcd" attacks you're just smashing because that's what you have to do now. Its busywork on an already busy class. Sure it's more involved but you're playing harder not smarter. Getting 4 stacks of ruin 4 will never feel as good as getting off a radiant shield during a period of rapid damage during a trick attack window.

    I like egis, I like ordering them, but I much prefer to interact with them on a conscious level instead of them just being fodder for spells that make the cooldowns go on cooldown.

    I would love for an actual pet class to be designed, so that SMN can be a little more summoner (micro managing demis instead of egis) and people who love pet classes could still have a class to switch to.

    Right now getting rid of Egis, even if it is what I desire the most, would leave pet fans without any class except SCH (LOL). So Get rid of Egis in 6.0 is a big yes IF they also bring in a pet job.

    If not I'd be okay with sticking a bit more with those nightmare nuggets, as long as it doesn't get in the way of SMN evolution that is going quite well with Bahamut and Phoenix (not talking about rotation clunkyness but concepts here)

    Which would be fine, if it weren't for a couple of (lore-related) facts:

    A) Primals are bad/harmful to the planet, and can't be controlled (with a few rare exceptions).
    Hence how the SMN job serves a "work-around" to that problem with the creation of Egis and Trances -> Demi-Primals.

    B) Thus far, Trances -> Demi-Primals are reserved to the most powerful ones in existence (those currently being Bahamut's and Phoenix's).

    Creating new Trances/Demi-Primals is fair game, but getting rid of Egis is simply unrealistic for many, many reasons (having to rework everything related to them since 2.0).
    And that's putting it mildly.

    Also, again with the typical straw-man argument of "this iteration is not like in previous FF games" (in which case, every single job would have to change as well).
    It's been around SIX years now. Time to let go.

    Exodus, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette. It's clear the current design of Summoner is broken, and it's clear the devs have repeatedly stated that they hate pets like the egis from 2.0. Where there's a will, there's a way, and we can very clearly get a much better class if the devs are willing to rework the class, which they should have done alongside MCH instead of doing a minor rework that functionally broke the class.

    This is also why I try to find ways to keep the old pets around, at least at lower levels, instead of just flat out ripping them out. E.G. giving Arcanist the trance system at level 4 instead of giving it at 58, and making it summon emerald carbuncle.

    If there has to be minor rewriting/retconning of the story because the devs didn't have the foresight to design the class thematically perfectly from the first, then this is one of the cases where I think most players can actually accept it because until SB, Summoner has not once actually been a summoner, and ShB is the closest to SMN it's ever been, but the pet is starting to be a very terrible system that is showing how much neglect it's been given.

    Especially considering all those (recent) Q&As/interviews/etc. stating that they would finally implement proper Egi glamours for SMN in the near future.

    An entire entry from the encyclopaedia, artworks, 3D models and story/job questlines + side quests, says I.

    As I said before, entirely unrealistic at this point (not to mention divisive for people who actually do like them).

    Egis are a permanent fixture of this game's lore/setting, regardless of whether you like them or not.
    Anything else regarding SMN is fair game, so long as it works with them (especially with the existence of Trances -> Demi-Primals).
