Latency is a major problem and it's far past time we addressed it.

The problem could be addressed with more regional DCs. another usa, one in australia, one is south america. You can argue with your ISP until the cows come home, or use a VPN - those things might get you the most efficient route, but it's still a LONG route dependent on location.

As a MCH, I approve this message. 1.5s gcds combined with animation locks we have on ogcds currently is just cancer. Reduce the animation locks by 0.25s or increase the gcd floor to give more space for latency. Or simply design jobs so that they avoid this 1.5s gcd crap with forced weaving.

In Tera (another mmo) the more programistically talented players fixed the problem by creating tera-proxy, which is basically local installed server client proxy acking the actions locally. As long as the connection is stable, it works quite excellent - basically giving you behavior as if you had effectively 0 ping.

Something equivalent could be created for FF (or any other mmo with shitty netcode). Or better done officially in client. Considering that the game already queues next action locally (while still requiring confirmation before next GCD from the server) it shouldn't be hard to add. But SE would have to give a fuck first more about issues at hand and less about ... whatever they care about.

Gonna have to agree with this one. I'm on the East Coast and having your ping go from 60ms to about twice that is feelsbadman.

I’m in western Washington and I’ve even been having issues lately. Constant 90k and rubber banding. This phrase is overused, but it’s getting bad enough to be literally unplayable. Optimal play is out of the question, not a deal breaker for me. A bummer, yes. But 10-15s or longer pauses during combat really limits what content I can run without feeling like a boat anchor to the rest of the party.

I actually install service for my current ISP and have done a lot of troubleshooting. There’s nothing else I can do, it’s on them.

That sounds like a deeper issue than merely server location...Might want to contact Techincal Support or your ISP for that.

Correct. I’ve done every that can be done from a customer and ISP standpoint. Much more than the average customer would be able to do because I actually install the service I’m using.
