I don't see what's wrong with wearing any AF gear you've obtained and have high enough level on the appropriate job, tbh.

FFXI allowed this with its glamour system and that game didn't go to pot as a result of it, and the realism/"job identity" argument falls flat on its face when you have people of every role going monster slaying in bikinis and swimming trunks anyway.

Only weapons and job specific gear should be glam locked
everything else should be fair game, since you can have naked tanks or white mages in full plate armor from the mogstation

This one could at least be solved easily with something like "Emperors new long gloves", though then you would have nothing on your actual hands...

this system sort of works better for the devs, for reasons that i particularly don't like but can tolerate.

and i have explained in an identical thread done in the past about this why i don't like this idea of lifting restrictions.
The most devs would have to do is to remove the check that sees if you are trying to glamour onto something with an incomparable job. Otherwise there we are already capable of mixing outfits that you can't glamour together and there is a failsafe in place when too many seams overlap which in turns hide the entire armor piece.

And why do you not like the idea of lifting glamour restrictions when everyone are capable of dressing like a plushie or in robes.

It may be harder than you think because glamour system is closely tied with the equipment system.
Glamour system simply tells you if you are able to glam something based it on if you are able to wear it.
So big changes to this could turn out to break the game .

I agree with all your points. I also find that "Taste" is a weak argument in general which is what disappointed me when Yoshi P said something about the subject.

I'm all for people having more ways to dress up their characters.

The thing that tilts the scales towards disagreeing with lifting the restrictions is two sided.
On one side, people need to understand that slowly... very slowly we're being given some more freedom. On an MMO if you were given everything straight away there would be no more room for it to develop and grow on a timely manner. Players can eat through the content faster than the devs can design and implement it. That includes gear designing and implementing. With restrictions it allows them to re-use gear but swapping the classes who can wear what. It allows to buy devs time while they work on other stuff. It's frustrating at times but I can live with this.
It aggravates me when people act like they have no choices or freedom on how they can dress their characters. With patience you will keep getting more and more choices.

On the other hand if everyone can wear everything what would stop the devs from releasing a single set and just dye with differently and slap different stats for the different classes? I'm going to steal Gemina's term of gear identityTM (thanks).

If gear identity is lost why waste resources designing let's say... that steampunk style from a tank's perspective? (It's part of why I have a love-hate relationship with the sky rat gear set). If SE deems it a waste of resources to have 5 people working on designing gear when you only need 1 design you can bet they'll tell those other 4 to go work on their next FF instead leaving FF14 even more starved of staff.

Are you willing to have a lot of choice right now at the risk of sacrificing variety in the future?

I do not want to take that risk. I do not want to give them an excuse to just spit out 1 gear set and just recolour it. For me lifting the restrictions is a lazy band-aid that can potentially limit our freedom in the future. I absolutely do not want that.

And that's why I'm here. I like what the OP is trying to do. Some people are trying to compromise with what was given to us. I know the system is convulted and frustrating but I think requesting that Amon set as a level 1 glamour is a way to try and work with what we have right now instead of throwing a tantrum because people are not getting the gear restrictions they want due to limitations of the server / stubborness of the devs.

Maybe Yoshi P would be less frustrated with the playerbase if we stopped acting like 3 year olds.

    Ninja edit:
    Apologies for the crappy screenshot.

That's my healer. Stop saying that you only got robes for healers. We need to stop turning everything into hyperboles. We could use more gear sets within certain styles ( military or tribal for instance) but they are not non-existant. (as much as i hate pagos at least it brought one of ARR's favorite gear sets as a lvl 1 glam set)

If you could stop creating a thread about the same subject every 20 days that would be lovely Grizz. You can bump old threads you know? Furthermore this type of thread keeps popping up so often it's not even funny anymore.

I think the current limitations for applying glamours are fine, needing to be able to equip both items and the item that's appearance is used needs to equal or lower level.

But they should remove any and all limitations on glamours appearing so if you can put the glamour on and can equip the item, it should have the glamour appearance regardless of class.

I'd really love to have the restrictions removed. I main SCH and they always get big ugly robes I would totally level another job I don't really like if it meant I could glamour some of the gear to my main job. It's hard to get excited for new dungeons and raids when its usually the same big poofy white gown over and over. Sure I can use lvl 1 glam but that gets old. I do really love the healer Ravel set (would be so much better if the huge skirt part was part of the pants and not connected to the body though)

The most annoying it is with accessories, to be honest. They always look the same for dungeon/raid for all jobs. And while I do understand why exactly they added job restrictions to them (hello Piety Tanks and such), it also means that if I want to have same looking accessory for all jobs, I need to keep in inventory 5 items or create 5 same looking plates with accessories that appropriate to linked job. Like.... c'mon? Give us at least 1st lvl glamour accessories that will drop from the dungeon they originally came from and will be untreatable if you wish to make them unique from point of "farm it to have it".
