Weird. FFXIVcensus says there is 15.9 million characters on all worlds (which sounds like true considering that some players have alts) but only 700 thousands of them are actually active players. A bit higher in fact since Website checks for certain rewards on lodestone, but still amount of active players is probably somewhere about 1 million.

Anyway, money FFXIV brings likely do not return back to FFXIV in a full amount. Some of them most likely goes to other projects (-cough-FFVII-remake-cough-) which means that we have budget that is lower than we could have in theory. Not like we can check any actual statistic about this, but it's definitely is not all that simple as it seems to be.

They don't have 14m active accounts. They've had 14m unique accounts created over the games lifetime.


Current estimates are around 800k-1mil active players.

The answer simply is this: That money goes to Square Enix and not the FFXIV team. Any upgrades to infrastructure would have to be approved and budgeted for which means that it can't be done at the whims of the FFIXV team. Servers and data storage are finite resources so if they need more, they would need to get that included in an approved budget and then coordinate with IT to get it integrated with their other systems. Given how smoothly this launch went I expect that they did that since they wanted players to have a more positive experience then Stromblood.

On Cactuar, I've never had a login queue that took longer than it took me to go get a cup of water and come back. Outside of confirmed DDoS attacks, but that's not SE's fault.

Really curious as to why so many FFXIV players think the lifetime account creation of FFXIV is the currently active accounts number. WoW only got to 13 million active and no other MMORPG has ever come close to that number. Rest assured if FFXIV had passed it, especially in 2019, they'd be making a much bigger deal of it. It would be worth taking note of.

Nah, they didn't miss the point, they blew a hole straight through it. Their reply was quite appropriate when presented with a "point" as... well... pointless, as yours is.

It's like a one to five minute wait. It's perfectly reasonable given the reality of the situation with the game, the servers, and the number of players they have. It doesn't matter that it's a sub game. "A two minute wait is unacceptable!" is an asinine thing to say.

The issue is that they shouldn't spend the time or money needed to increase or upgrade server capacity solely to address 10-minute or less wait times to log in that only occur when crowded worlds are extra crowded during the first month or two of an expansion. Because it's a non-issue.

Are there other issues with their servers that could use a look-at? Sure. But this? Nah.

This has been going on for longer then ShB release.

It's one of my many concerns with the practices of SE. I love the game, but damn.

Its only an issue for a couple weeks every 2 years. Its not worth it financially to do so. You don't see governments making roads wider for rush hour do you? Happens twice a day yet commutes can be as long as 2 hours in some places, when it would only take 20 mins without traffic.
