I don't understand why they did it the way they did. Continuation is such an unnecessary button.

Because this is one of the few MMOs where (casual, but also the majority of) players regularly mistake button count for toolkit depth regardless of the design (in)efficiency involved.
Or people prefer pressing several buttons in lieu of spamming the same one over and over again. Just because you prefer something doesn't make it inherently better. In the case of Gunbreaker, you would no longer be able to weave combos which is why Gnashing Fang doesn't replace the baseline combo.

At least it isn't on the far other side of the spectrum like wow is
arcane mage is literally a 2 button spec, so damn boring
While I agree with this comment, I also don't want to see changes to the design of Gunbreaker and actually like that it has so much 'button spam'.
That said... I think there are easily characters in OVerwatch that have maybe 3 or 4 'buttons' total that are more complex than ANYTHING this game has to offer... because the combat engine it hitscan action based.
And since this game is tab-target 'mostly stand there' based... complexity generally is stuck coming from rotation-confusion...

In the end it has less to do with us being tab-target as our being unable to be anything but tab-target. Our poll rate isn't enough to allow for "action"-like play; we can't readily handle constant interception or prioritization during soft-targeting (whereby you hit the selected target if range, or any other applicable target in your facing direction if not); we can't handle auto-optimization for AoEs (where firing off an AoE at a group of enemies will center on/from the enemy from which the most enemies can be hit); we can't handle animation-matched AoEs (whereby if it looks like an AoE, it's an AoE... to the degree it looks like an AoE); etc., etc. Heck, at present we run out of circles and into explosions for greatest safety...While I agree with this comment, I also don't want to see changes to the design of Gunbreaker and actually like that it has so much 'button spam'.

And agreed, I like GNB's button spam, though it's not quite why I stay awake on it and PLD and fall asleep on WAR and especially DRK atm. (This is my Healer/DEX alt. My other is my Tank/STR alt. Not sure which I'll put casters on yet.)
