The ninja slicing sound is clean like a sharp knife, gnb was more like tearing something apart (on solid barrel combo you can see and hear that with the old sfx). That's why the gnb looks like it's lifting something heavy, he has to force his way out to complete the strike. Tearing something apart is harder than cutting something like the ninja does. It makes sence with "Ready to rip", "Ready to tear", "Ready to gouge" and that's why the gnb can move so fast in the continuation combo.

We lost all the metallic sounds too. The slicing sound was mixed with the metal vibrating and the parts of the gunblade hitting each over (like a blade AND a gun). The explosions from the continuation combo weren't very big, but each one was a little different.
But some ppl wanted only the cutting sound because in ff8, there's only "woosh" "cut" "boom"... We had something more detailed and new in the old sfx lmao.

    Or i'm just stupid haha
I thought people just wanted BOOM > BOOM > BOOM tbh. I felt like we already had a good combination of woosh > cut > boom. And I agreem I liked hearing the sounds of the blades workings, the trigger pulls, the slashes, the explosion highlighting it all. Not to mention as far as these types of gunblades go, they were detailed as a unique form in FF8 to wield one. they aren't positioned like normal swords, they're not straight, but they're not curved like guns either, they have a slight curve that requires you to actually finesse the angles a bit, which i s why our continuation combo flows from a downward slash, then into an upward slash that flowed from the down. Everything connects and then the final hit is the stab because there's nowhere else to lead its momentum from that point on, thats the finisher to reset your attack movement. All the sounds we had fit with all these movements and people whined as if we're supposed to be holding a damn cannon that should just michael bay fart every WUMP of it.

This was GNB's original sounds, not all of them mind you but a lot of the good ones. Don't get discouraged to play it, its still fun and I have hope SE notices this outbreak of comments about the sound choices. I'm holding hope personally, no way they're going to ruin my favorite job.

Side note, I'm an FF8 fan through and through, never once thought they should change the SFX like this or anything to be "heavier". The comments I was reading about how it feels heavy in FF8 or Dissidia just make my eyes bleed with anger. It was NEVER heavy, you felt the vibration of the trigger when you held a PS controller and did the basic attack. Yoshida said it'd be the same as in our continuation combo going Attack > activate trigger skill > attack > activate trigger skill. Whoever these fanboys are, dunno what they're talking about and the job was fine as it was. I was certainly loving the sounds and the job just fine before all this nonsense.
Oh god, this youtube link of the old sounds just makes me want them back even more.

If you check on reddit there's ppl asking for lots of different things : more "classic" cut sound (if i understand more like a pld or a ninja), more boom (to match more the shb trailer), no metallic sound (because the clear sound isn't fitting their taste or is too strong) and wanted a heavy sounding weapon as well (like a drk or a war). The new sfx is not exactly what they wanted, but it's a step in the right direction for them.
All GNB mains liked the old sfx, but wanted something that sound even more like the trailer imo.

5.0 sounds were fine. Gunblade is not a heavy weapon. Look at the animations. You can't swing that fast with heavy sword. And you hear explosions every 28 seconds. They can't be too loud, it would be irritating fast.
Developers are smart, they made good sounds in 5.0. No one ever should have touch that. Don't let nostalgia take over common sense.

Yeah it was really good imo. But i think they could have changed it in a better way. The explosions can't be loud indeed, we needed just a little bit more. For the metalic/mecanic "creaking" sounds, some were realy loud (like eye gouge or blasting zone) and i get why some ppl really dislike that. And yeah the weapon is not heavy, drk and war are the heavy weapon weilders.
The changes are way too big right now, there was no need to completly forget all the gnb mains who played from day one and liked the old sfx.

I ain't all GNB mains then cuz I thought it was nice how different it sounded, smooth, clean, precise, not TOO loud. I've mained every tank at least once (paladin the shortest amount of time tho) and I loved GNB SFX as it was tbh. It still sounded like it had heavy swings but it also sounded swift and fluid. Whoever was asking for these changes are nuts.

The "metallic/mechanic" sounds everyone is claiming to hear was good too tbh. Its a gunblade, a mechanical device, you SHOULD hear triggers and compounding of aether causing explosions. It SHOULD sound like you hear the inner workings that make the gunblade not the same as a garlean gunblade. Blasting Zone and Eye Goude sounded great how they were imo, end of combos and biggest hitting things SHOULD sound like they make a good impact... Not every other skill in the whole combination. It was satisfying to get your 80 skill and you just BURST light out unsheathed and then SLAM it down and it felt amazing. Eye Gouge was similar, you get through that whole rotation, you get a satifying final stab to end it and it FELT GOOD. Honestly, none of it needed changing, anyone that whined was just being overly nostalgic. The weapon isn't heavy, but the sfx we had back then sounded very strong and fitting.

I'm not even gonna say "old sounded good BUT NEEDED THIS" anymore, I literally can't stand the new ones to where I don't even want to login today. I liked some changes like lightning shot, rough divide, our aoes now.... but honestly, with everything we lost, those changes aren't worth it, I'll gladly take back the old one in a heartbeat ad accept them as they are and how I planned to main it. No more damn changes, no more brats QQ'ing about fake nostalgia that doesn't even exist, it sounded fine and it should've been left alone.

When i said " All GNB mains liked the old sfx, but wanted something that sound even more like the trailer imo. " i was more thinking about the details in the sound not how loud explosion's are (and it's just being greedy there, the old sfx sound almost exactly like the trailer). I didnt say it in a good maner.

If we get the 1rst sfx and they never change i will be REALLY happy. I didn't have any problems with it, dont get me wrong xD
