Fun is subjective. Worlds are full and people want to play, you will be doing many people a favor.Complete and utter BS! I'm a casual player, and I have exactly one class that I play. That's my choice. This is a game, it's supposed to be fun. Well, this is the opposite of fun for me.
If SE is going to continue this practice of forcing me to play some class I don't want to play, with a crippled set of capabilities at that, and do so for 20 minutes just to satisfy some sadistic streak that the game designers have... well, they can go foist that crap on someone else, because I'll no longer stand for it. I've done it too many times already, but this is the straw that breaks the camel's back.
I'm sure there are folks that love it, but I HATE it with a passion. Do it again, SE, and I'm gone.
As far as duties go, I really didn't mind this one. At least it was all one fight. I hate the ones like Y'sholta's. You have a part on your PC and then a part as her, with the same limited skill set. Then a companion NPC dies and you fail the duty. Then to add insult to injury, you have to the entire thing over again, including the part on your PC. Those are the duties I hate, the multi-part ones where you have to do the entire thing over if something goes wrong, instead of repeating that part.
I'm shocked they didn't open up more skills for this one though. Could have given people a glimpse of Gunbreaker and maybe encouraged them to play it. As it is, it may accomplish the opposite lol.

Yeah the multi part ones hurt when you fail them.As far as duties go, I really didn't mind this one. At least it was all one fight. I hate the ones like Y'sholta's. "Sometimes I wonder I heal for fun. or if I heal because I'm a glutton for punishment."

Unlike many of the games out there, FFXIV is an actual MMORPG. The RPG aspect is what sets it apart. The quest isn't about playing a tank or any other job. It's about RPing as Thancred. Some of these types of quests are more fun than others. But I enjoyed this one.

The problem isn't the RPing as an NPC. It's moreso that it's beating down a giant health sponge for 15m with a very limited(boring) tool kit. The feeling of danger didn't even exist because of the short CD potion until the end when the stuns happen.

There are responses here complaining about having to play a tank.

The problem is NOT about having to play another class..it is just freaking stupid junk to force the player to use so few skills for no effect and then after suffering for fruitless attacks and having to run away from the same AOE over and over and listen to that old creep drivel in (yes we get is he is bad, mean nasty..just get on with the sotry)....they tell us to fire and NOTHING FREAKING Happens you get frozen over and over and can do nothing..and you die. It is totally stupid scritping and writing and shows a complete lack of imagination on the part of SE. I still have no clue after watching spoiler lableed You Tube vids how you freaking fire the final bullet, NONE of the skills WORK at that point so how do you fire a bullet...and by the way how to you know at the start how many bullets he even has?
it is totally stupid to put this kind of crap into the main story. Put it where the uber gamers who LIKE to suffer can play it over and over on their own for some special prize.
really a sad dark moment in a superb update
Dont do it again SE

I liked it, but I also completely agree that it was too long. They could have shortened it a bit and still pulled off what they were trying to do there.

Not to turn this into a healer rant, but this is exactly how every one of those duties is for us. One DPS button, one DoT, repeat until the duty finally decides we've had enough. Every encounter with Ran'jit played out that way. At least with Thancred we got some story abilities and dialogue.
It's overall just a combination of too long of a scene along with them not trusting us to be able to perform a 3 button combo in an RP instance.

While i generally dislike these duties all together the that struck me as most out of place was the duty action. Aren't these primarily there for the sake of not disrupting existing hotbar setups? But we have a whole empty hotbar for this duty? IDK i just found it mildly distracting, I guess pressing R3 isn't that big a deal.
