This is normal. I can't remember the exact explanation, but it's something to do with a lack of real anti-aliasing, I think. Look up FFXIV foliage flicker/shimmer, etc. on Google. It's annoying at first, but trust me-- you'll get pretty used to it. You can turn down the Grass Quality setting to reduce the amount of foliage on the ground, if you'd like.

I would hardly consider a visual flicker on your screen being normal... I do not have any issues at all with flicker or flashing of any kind playing at max video settings. If anything, the issue may be linked to the video card and its drivers. Verify that your video drivers are up to date and if they are, rollback to the version right before the most recent and see if that helps resolve the issue.

Unless you're seeing something in the video I'm not... this is what foliage looks like on both computers I've owned, plus friends' computers, plus any gameplay footage I've watched recordings of, including presentations from SE. It's just aliasing. I made a thread about this when I very first started playing the game. It's very jarring since most modern games use some form of hardware anti-aliasing solution.

This is what I read in many different areas, still kept hoping that there is some sort of fix for it. I am now lvl 31 already and I did indeed get somewhat used to it. It still looks bad when I notice it, but I guess I just have to live with it.

    Thank you for the reply.

I'll have to agree with thrashette. This looks like aliasing on the grass. Since the grass can only be rendered by a few pixels at the distance, it gives a shimmering effect. Using the FXAA anti-aliasing setting in the graphics options can alleviate this a little bit if it's currently turned off.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
