I'm not sure this is the case, as i laid out in my last reply to another person. As i understand it, your "Darkside" is simply a part of the WoL's personality, part of their being. While yes the Soul crystal did give rise to how we know it, it has always been a part of us. Its simply that Dark Magic and its use allowed us to manifest our darkest impulses and views on the world using Aether willing or no, similar to how a summoner can manifest their knowledge about primals to summon Egi's.

Its very possible that Fray won't show up in future DRK quests (and the next set will most likely be about Sidguru and Rielle regardless) but whether you choose that to mean Fray is gone for good or just now peacefully a part of you is, well, up to you.
I'm not sure its a factor of need. As i said, as i understand it Fray (Or rather, our darkside. Fray was simply the identity he/she used in order to deceive us and try and take control) is a part of us. Its basically a manifestation of a part of us, and thus being a dark knight and "Fray" and one in the same. I suppose there is some elements of interpretation to it, but i cant help but feel like it should of been a little clearer.

It's interesting you bring up the journal. I hadn't even thought to read it.

I'm reading it now - Where exactly does it say that Esteem is that? I dont see any mention of it.

Interstingly enough, there are some parts of this journal entry that are seemingly written by "Fray", written as follows
"But if you'rew reading this, then you know how the story goes, don't you? So now comes the choice: hold the crystal close that we may enjoy these moments together. Or put it away and pretend i was never a part of it. That i was never really here."
    and
"You say a few words, and offer a flower in a memory of...a memory. Now go, and don't look back. Sidurgu is waiting for you with Rielle in the Forgotten knight when you return. He asks you what you found, what it was all for, and you reply-"

I'm not sure how to take that, to be honest. It would, however, sadden me to think that this is the last we see of "Fray" - Afterall, its one of the most integral parts of the DRK storyline, and there is so much yet to explore about it. Dropping this plot device so early seems a little silly, and a missed opportunity.

2.0 Veteran from 2013. Just looking to be helpful. DRK is Love, DRK is life.

(Ignore the levels on my character card, the tool i used to make it hasn't been updated for 4.0)

It says in the Unending Journey when you look at the quest 'Our Closure'. At the bottom, after the part about Sid's reply, it reads this:

'Time to go. I don't know when we'll do this again-[I]if[I] we'll do this again. The little trick you've learned doesn't count, you know. But even if this is our end, it won't change what we had. I love you more than you'll ever know. Be well.'

I'm not sure what to make of it entirely, I'm batting in the dark with this one, but I think this is Fray accepting that the WoL's Darkside has been embraced in a way, and not in the way they originally thought back in Heavensward. But to them, that's OK, because they have come to terms with being you and who you are, you and your Darkside truly fight as one and Fray will love you for it no matter what, because ultimately, this is who you are and you finally are completely at terms with that. The flower was in memory of who you and Fray used to be, a tribute to your start as a Dark Knight. It is a rather sweet way to end to this aspect of being a Dark Knight, you and your Darkside see the world through the same eyes and even though the odds of you seeing each other again are slim, you know that whatever happens, you both have each other and like family, you'll love each other to the bitter end.

I would highly suggest going back and reading the 30-50 and 60-70 journal entries as well if this is the first you are learning of the DRK journal entries btw.
