In fairness, to play in relevant content you need to slog through hundreds of hours of useless content.

As a new player, that would certainly be very off-putting about the game.

The thing I don't get is not all new players want to rush to endgame. Some do however, maybe it's my way of thinking but what even is the rush, everything is basically new content to the new player.

One thing everybody agrees on is arr needs a term. Aye that I agree on.

People like peon just try to rush to endgame without a care for anything else, FFXIV has a big focus on story which is a big plus and a minus for people that only care for endgame and raid.

One of the comments really summed it up to me: Lazy Peon is used to MMOs where the story is used as filler between patches of endgame. XIV is the opposite - endgame content is used as the filler in between patches of story.

It's only useless if you don't enjoy it, and even then, it can only be useless to you specifically. Plenty of players only enjoy the story and never take part in high end or group content.

That's debatable in itself, but this specific video (which is very far from a "review" or any sort of actual relevant critique anyway) has absolutely nothing to do with "consumer protection."

Hardly. BDO's grind is just as if not more grindy than FFXIV. The comparison stands. The comparison is valid because in one game it's supposedly ok while in another it's "THE WORST EVER". This is incongruous and biased.

It's a Korean Sandbox MMO.

If you dont go into it thinking "I'm going to have to grind a lot", I dont know what to tell you.

Again, you're comparing a game that over-emphasizes its story and talks about its MSQ like it's the words of god ascended on high to a game that is in the genre of grind grind grind.

One of those games I expect to be at the level of the story if I do the story. 14 isnt the first MMO to do things in the "follow our linear story through the world" progression. Guild Wars did it a decade earlier (and I'd argue it did it better because all its grindy elements were optional and/or after the story had ended for that chapter).

Similarly, if you play pantheon should it ever release, you should expect it to be a slower paced, significantly grindier grind of a grind, and should probably not expect from it the things you expect from an on-the-rails experience in 14.

The consumers have a voice. If the "State" or "Company" outlawed all consumer reviews, the world would be very different. So it is related to "consumer protection". It's not a perfect system, but I'd rather have FFXIV players make reviews of the game then FFXIV players being dictated what they have to say about game. But feel free to create a video critique of his bad critiques on a Youtube video, you might get plenty of views.

Agreed. I started playing when HW was 1 month old. Going through the story the first time was a great experience. Getting to know (and dislike) characters, familiarize and feeling a part of the world built an attachment with the game. Something I hadn't felt with WoW.

I was also one of the noobs that did the crystal tower and zodiac weapon side content and unintentionally getting to know Eorzea. When I finally got to HW it felt like a natural progression that felt like it was all leading up to it, instead of WTF is going on if the jump potions were around.

Keeping that in mind, I really do think they can and should prune the MSQ. Especially 2.0 - 2.3.

Sounds like the guy is just watching twitch and youtube videos of Shadowbringers and not acutally playing it. If that's the case then he is not worth anyones time to listen too.

Note: Ya, he does not seem to be interested in the game itself. Only insterested in why people find it so good..
