One thing is to disagree with someone's opinions and another is asking for a video to be taken down (among other pearls).

I agree, this is kinda extreme and shows the immature part of the community.
Respect his view on the matter and move along as some will listen to him and others will give it at least a shot.
Yes, it's shady he dropped it before the release date and did a very superficial run of the game, but let's not get into conspiracies and stuff since it's expected before an expansion is launched.
He's one of the many voices on youtube and on the internet, i would rather treat it that way and not take someone else opinion before i form my own.

Why shouldn't they downvote? They disagree with his points. That's kind of why the downvote option exists: people using their freedom to disagree with someone's opinion. You act as if people should smile and pretend not be annoyed by what they feel is unfair or biased criticism. Not a fan of fake niceities in the name of "civility".

Of course that in no way excuses harrassment or calls for bans. Those are just flatly wrong and luckily only a fringe of people are suggesting that. Don't make that small subset to be more than it is.

Oh and the forums and reddit are an extremely insignificant portion of the base. My experiences has shown that the in-game community is much friendlier and laidback than the forums and reddit. But hey, broad strokes and straw man and all that.

You lot constantly advertise FF14 as the nicest community around, and here we are. A youtuber posted on a forum because he has a different opinion than you and everyone is downvoting him for having a different opinion. There's even a certain person that suggested for SE to contact youtube to take down his video because it's not a nice review of the game and proceed to bash him because he doesn't agree with you.

Honestly, threads like these make me feel disgusted to be part of this community.

Honestly? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I respect that. What I do NOT respect, however, is forming an opinion based off of misinformation. And that guy's video is full of it. If someone does a review of a game I believe that they should have an actual idea as to what they're talking about, and he does not. At all. The game isn't for him, and that is perfectly fine. But he shouldn't go reviewing something he clearly hasn't experienced in full, if at all, since he apparently decided to pay for a level skip. In the end I find it less offensive and more amusing. This will do very little to deter people from trying FF XIV out.

Apparently that person is a well known reviewer for giving bad reviews. Just look at the comments. One comment even stated. " Clicked on the link to the video, saw the Author then walked away laughing"

To be honest usually his reviews are more well done but this seemed a bit rushed in that he even states the only option to prepare is to grind level 70 dungeons till he has the gear needed. When you have options of Dungeon drops, tomes, crafting, straight up buying it. Though I didn't watch all of it.

To be fair ARR is pretty rough compared to today's MMO standard. The story has a few moments but up until 2.3 it's 90% filler and the cinematic don't have voice over, you have like 3/4 spells in your rotation for the first 40 level (but it seems like it got a lot better since 5.0). But the worst part is the quest design, a typical quest is : talk to NPC A in zone 1, he tell you to speak with NPC B in zone 2, he tell you to talk to 3 soldiers NPC in the city then report to NPC C in zone 3, then this NPC send you back to NPC A ... You spend most of the ARR MSQ right clicking on NPC and teleporting (i.e. looking at a loading screen), I have no idea why the dev designed the game that way, it feel more like homework than a video game. There's also the elephant in the room aka the waking sand, to talk to Minfilia even if you take the ferry you have to : teleport to LL > teleport to the arcanist guild > take the boat > click on door 1 > click on door 2 : that's 5 (!!!) loading screen, and you have to this like 30 time during the MSQ. What. The. Fuck.

Only reason I kept playing the game were that I liked the dungeon a lot, I heard both the story and quest design get better once you reach HW (it's true) and ... well there's not a lot of other good MMO at the moment. Still after a few hundreds hours of fedex quest (I was in the middle of 2.2) I reached a point were I was tired of the game so I took a breack for a couple of months. When I came back I powered through the boring quest and now I'm having a blast, but this guy decided to keep playing despite not having fun so now his opinion is overly negative. When you're getting tirred of a game either pace yourself or take a breack, your not going to like it more if you try to force it.

I feel bad for all the ppl who were thinking of trying FFXIV but gave it a pass after watching his review.

Ugh this guy? I really don't like him. I feel like it's very rare for him to actually like any MMO I feel like and when he does it lasts for a few weeks and then he's back to making negative "reviews" about it. Do people actually hold his opinion with high value? Like I don't care if he doesn't like the game, it's not for everyone, I even tell that to friends that are looking to try it out. But he knew exactly what this game is like, I'm pretty sure he's done previous reviews on it, and I feel he just wanted to throw out a click bait video with no actual subsistence. The leveling has always used more or less the same model. The Shadowbringers story is amazing but he completely threw it to the side because "qq leveling is boring." And I get that questing in XIV isn't the most engaging thing to do for a lot of players but he could have presented this "review" in a much better way.

I do not disagree that the views of some within this thread are sophomoric, and pedantic but I also think is borderline the same to expect a welcoming view of differing opinions regarding a subject more or less does not align with the general tone of the forum. I mean sure it would be nice to expect differently from people, but the reality is people by nature do not like having something they enjoy criticized, even more so when said so when said "criticism" by the youtuber's own admission is flawed and lacking since they were unable to get past the leveling aspect. Granted once again to the videos great I do not think the youtuber intended for it to be taken as a review, and that more so has to do with the framing of the OP.
