To be honest here, the player count really doesn't matter at this point because servers are CHEAP even RENTING servers is cheap.

Can literally Rent 30 servers right now for 154 dollars per month. That is only roughly 5k a month and WE all know VERY well they make FAAAAAAAAR more then 5K a month.

They have the resources, they are just getting by with what they can get away with and not care about the player base.

They use the money to fund other projects. SE won't give Yoshi the money to fix the server code

All the cash money in the world doesn't guarantee an immediate work force will sprout from thin air, fully qualified and able to to compensate for the unpredictability of a launch.

^This. Also, no server equipment on Earth can cope with an infinite number of people connecting at once - the amount of connections it can handle at one time is limited (the servers used on FFXI as an example as I understood it could supposedly withstand up to 200000 simultaneous connections, based on a really old magazine article circa 2001 about FFXI's development that I no longer own, and yet the game suffered lag and disconnections with barely 10% of that number), it's the nature of the beast. Yes some networks and their underlying infrastructure are better than others, but no network would cope with an enormous amount of people trying to connect at once (if they could, then DDoS attacks would not be possible at all).

Think of a server as a multilane freeway, they only have so many lanes and the entrance (the tollgate) can only cope with a certain number of people going through at once and you have to wait your turn. But if everyone tries accessing it at once it's going to not only gridlock but back up the connecting roads as well. There is little to nothing that can be done about it other than being patient, waiting your turn and being understanding. Ranting and raving and shouting for the freeway to be widened isn't going to miraculously give you access immediately - like a freeway it takes time to 'build' new infrastructure. And even then it would just get filled up by even more cars. Less road rage and more just sitting back in your seat and listening to the radio for a change while you wait for the traffic jam to sort itself out in time (and it will).

But then I think I pushed that metaphor too far.

Fortune for you, I am a Information Systems Engineer. I know exactly how servers work, the MBS it requires and all of the running requirements it takes to run servers exactly like these. I've already quoted the price of the servers that could be added in addition to the current servers.

The issue is of two parts, One part excuses ("we dont have the money" - Bull because subs are 12-15 doillars a pop spread across ALL players. which is MILLIONS of dollars and the other part is in competence which if they don't know how? look for someone who does.)

There are servers that do exist that do can handle Millions of connections at once. Sony and Microsoft is absolute proof of that existence. The worst part here is that square isn't even seeing FRACTIONS of that amount of traffic and cant even make it work with what they already have.

Which makes it MUCH more frustrating for me because i know EXACTLY how it works and i can see 100% though the BS

Good news, because to run 30 more servers with SSD's 32GB of server ram and Xeon Processors 3.5Ghz AND 1GBS of upload speed is only.....

(drum roll.....) 4,950 dollars a monthhhh. Which isn't even 3% of the monthly earnings YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY.

Hmmmm, sees original poster is from Gilgamesh...remembers all the times Balmungers complained about queues and we were told to transfer....

I know just what to say:

You should transfer to a lower population datacenter. *smile*

In all honesty I never had to wait more than 5 minutes to log in on Crystal and that was on day one of early access.

Look at this guy act like he knows what he is talking about because he ITs some servers.

Game wasn't designed to horizontally scale. Can't just throw more servers at the problem and think it will actually work.

Oh i remember EXACTLY what that was like. More so on day one where the game was literally unplayable.

Which makes this extremely frustrating seeing how square has never in the existence of ffxiv even dating back to 1.0 EVER had a successful launch.

Its clear they don't have the talent and the community has just... grown to expect this.

When I do my work with patches, upgrades and new server integrations i keep my standards and clients standers FAR above the standard square has set.

Literally in college while i was going though course work square was literally used as a personal example of multiple professors on who NOT to be like because square set the bar so low on all of their launches.
