Played through Shadowbringer with directX9, because I couldn't start with x11. It worked but sometimes the FPS dropped really hard or simply crushed with a directX-error. Other things I noted was, that sometimes some models (mounts, enemies or even during a cutscene) or soundeffect were not properly loaded, following most likely with a crash.

I really hope there's going to be a fix (like unlimiting the damn FPS again, maybe).
I am doing the same, when i change my refresh rate below native 144, i get some strange things , back ground screen saver seems to bleed thru, and during movies i see my hud. wtf. changing this seems to make it use dx11 but i dont want to mess up my display ,for my notebook its kind of attached. so . went back to dx9 grrr i wish they would fix this.

Sad to see such a widespread issue while early access is happening.
Glad it isn't happening to me personally. I'm running 1080ti and my hubby runs 1070... But I recommend everyone having issues the common thing here is Nvidia so I recommend everyone switching to team RED... lol!
My backup computer is running a vega 64 there are a few games that just run better on AMD.

I just hope the fix doesn't break more peoples game.

    Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.

Only if they should be getting a commendation.

Fixed it by thoroughly scrubbing FF14 from my computer from every place possible and then reinstalling it.

I don't expect everyone to know how to do something like that, nor do I expect people to have to do that, it's not something your average person can do without some decent knowledge to help them.

sadly my gaming notebook has only one refresh rate allowed and that's 120 (refusing to lower to FF ilvl I suppose? ), I don't own any other computer or monitor and had only the early access time to play ShB before I am leaving for a month of summer holiday, so It is really frustrating. I was really looking forward to the expansion and now I am only angry at all my friends and their screenshots from the game
Hope you will fix it soon.

It's not a AMD or Nvidia issue it's the fact that the FPS cap doesn't play nice with Laptops that are locked at a refresh rate of 120hz or higher. I run a 2080ti in my desktop and have no issues with my G-sync 240hz monitor. However on my Laptop with a 1070 and locked at 120hz (can't change it without 3rd party tools) the game crashes with DX 11 errors.

This is simply a case of SE's Software Dev team not testing high-end laptops after implementing the 90 FPS max setting. It's not an edge case it's simply neglect on their part. I'd love to see a Root Cause Analysis after this is fixed.

Well, I just had a really weird experience. So at the start of the early access I had the same dx11 issue and somehow managed to fix it (I honestly don't know how) then today ffxiv kept DC while in a quest instance and ended up crashing my computer and when I booted back up the issue returned.

I did this and now i can play dx11 with no modifications. apparenlty somethings left over or at least for me. i did have to make sure ffxiv was no where or no ref. and then reinstall. i did also save my backup.. config settings. and restored them and it still worked.

My bet is that some old files were left-over from SB that told the game it can run above 90 FPS, while the new files from SHB told it that it can't run above 90 FPS and it didn't overwrite them correctly causing it to error out sooner or later.

That’s one of the cases where it’s not working. Another case is my Desktop PC with a 60hz monitor and gtx1070 has the same problem as well. When I played with my laptop, which has also has a 60hz monitor and a gtx 1060, it had zero problems. I saw a lot of posts with gtx 1070s so the game might have an issue with some of these cards.

Can you go into greater detail about how you cleared out any trace of it? Searching 'ffxiv' in file explorer and deleting everything that's found surely won't be enough. Do you recall all the directories that store files that affect the game?
