Final Fantasy XI's rocky start?

well just look at the numbers on your own server. mine started with reasonably close to the same amount of jp players as there was na players. a year later the jp players outnumber us 5-1 even during na prime time. on na prime time we have 40-50 english speaking players and 150+ jp.

that in itself, tells me that the jp are more willing to wait out the changes in direction and have stayed through the issues a whole lot better.

i'm not saying they don't have more options than they had back then, but that a higher percentage of the jp players stayed than the english speaking ones did. if you talk to the jp players that started both games on release it was actually stated and shown that xi released in as bad if not worse than xiv was.

no ones denying the state of release, but back then that was still the norm, but now that these games have been out for a decade there are so many comparisons that people now look deeper

back then, people accepted things as they were no matter how bad they were(even wow had a horrible release in alot of aspects, a ton of stuff that would be absolutely unacceptable by todays standards happened at their release)

that doesn't change either.

1. xi had a release as bad as xiv did.
2. xi only released in japan
3. xi didn't change development team and direction
4. xi was a better game one year after release than xiv is.

one can argue that the reason 3 and 4 happened is because 2 was changed. since the jp players are the majority still playing you can say that the only reason yoshi was brought in and the direction has changed is due to the fact that other countries got the game before they got the game to a point it was ready to be released world wide.

Yeah reading the history of FFXI I am now confident that this game will be just fine. This isnt a game that will be around for only a couple of years. Try a full decade...this could be the last video game I will ever play lol...I challenge you to stick around and be pleasantly suprised.

4. xi was a better game one year after release than xiv is.

This i find a bit subjective to a persons interests and likes/dislikes.

XIV has over come a lot of limitations and drawbacks to what XI had, and even battles such as Ifrit i think look more entertainment than most of XI's battles.

Personally, I think XIV's launch was worse than XI's. Even when comparing the two games at the 1 year mark, XIV is still worse. Looking into the not too distant future, I believe that XIV's 2.0 launch will still be worse than XI's global launch w/ Zilart....

I read your whole post and I have t say that you made me miss FFXI... The game was so much better than 14 is now, too bad I did everything possible in it and quit a while ago.

I think... if 14 ever gets to where 11 was when I started to play it, I will most likely make a new character and start all over again, just to experience the game from the beginning the way you are supposed to experience it. But something tells me it is already a bit spoiled for me...
