the reason 11 didnt launch in us at the same time as jpn was because it was unfinished, just like 14.

Yeah, but this was back when MMOs were a fairly new genre, unlike XIV's release. Not only that, but XIV's entire gameplan pre-yoshida was absolute garbage.
also they didnt scrap the game and rebuild it. the japanese release was nothing more then a beta test similar to the f2p period we had.
This is what I've been saying since the beginning. If there were shinny armors/weapons, alot of missions, etc way more people would be willing to stick with the game and put up with the bs system. However, nothing you did seemed to produce any type of impact or result. MMO players are like racoons, we like shinny stuff. They still need to stop recoloring the same pieces of gear for 50th time if they planning for us to care. This is pretty much spot on..
The Biggest Reason FFXIV Tanked the way it did was because there was zero content. An MMO can be released with the worst mechanics in the world and just get fixed along the way, they just need to have something that distracts players. I'm glad they decided to do large scale fixes in this game, but the main reason people keep leaving and coming back and leaving again is because there is nothing to do.
The Dev Team needs to get off the WoW-like release a dungeon every few months kick and start making real content or this game will go no where.
Hey at the very least we get a nice start on that department with job armor in 1.21.This is what I've been saying since the beginning. I just hope after 2.0 is released that content comes at a much faster rate. Even though we are getting jobs in 1.21 part of me wishes that when we unlocked them that they were lvl 1 and we could rank them up with xp so that players would have more distraction while waiting for 2.0.
I appreciate the devs working hard and trying to sort things out.

grinding is not content, just a means to get to the content. Instead of wasting wishes for lvl 1 use them wishing for more contentI just hope after 2.0 is released that content comes at a much faster rate. actually the exact same could be said about xi on the original launch. if it had released in other places besides japan xi would have gotten the same response that xiv got. the difference is the jp players are more willing to take their time and figure something out and wait for it to be fixed.
if xi had released in the us people would be saying the original xi was pure garbage. the difference is one year into xi they didn't have a new staff and a completely new direction. that is why one year after release xi was in much better shape than xiv is. if the original staff had been left in charge this game would be around the same place xi was a year after it released. that place is in alot better shape than the game is now.

at the time, when no other mmos save a select few were on the market, people didnt know better
they woulda accepted it with open arms because they would have had nothing else to compare it to!

well just look at the numbers on your own server. mine started with reasonably close to the same amount of jp players as there was na players. a year later the jp players outnumber us 5-1 even during na prime time. on na prime time we have 40-50 english speaking players and 150+ jp.
that in itself, tells me that the jp are more willing to wait out the changes in direction and have stayed through the issues a whole lot better.
i'm not saying they don't have more options than they had back then, but that a higher percentage of the jp players stayed than the english speaking ones did. if you talk to the jp players that started both games on release it was actually stated and shown that xi released in as bad if not worse than xiv was.
