Midlander being called derplander

I never understood the whole “derplander” meme, is it the face or something?
Also what’s up with midlander’s being called “cute” or “scrawny”? Mindlander’s have an average build.

Derplander is the very specific midlander who represents us, the Warrior of Light, in pre-rendered cinematics and promotional artwork.

And midlanders are average for the rest of the world outside of the US. They're quite skinny by US standards.
