Aye, I don't wear my chocobo suit because a white Au Ra tail poking out of the suit's butt, looks a lot like a tape worm. It's really unnerving.
I'll be a Viera soon so I'll be able to wear the suit! (But probably not my chocobo mask T^T)

Option = sure why not.
Forced on all = No thank you.
I'd argue it'd look worse on anything not close fitting (robe and skirts that flare out at the waist or capes) as you'd end up just seeing the tip poking out and that sort of thing can tend to look a bit... unfortunate. Especially with darker hair colours.
Apparently there's some lore that they remove their tails using krakka roots when they reach adulthood, but I don't know how cannon that is.
I am still fine with Viera having no tails though.
No no NO! I was ecstatic when I found out they weren’t going to ruin Viera with tails. The tail clipping in this game is horrendous, but if it doesn’t bother you there’s already two female animalistic(ish) race options with tails to play now. I’m so glad Viera won’t be plagued with them.
I've never heard of that and googling it brings up exactly one search result which is a single comment on Reddit.
I wouldn't put too much trust in that.
How about no, this would be fundamentally changing the race that Matsuno envisioned, and cause to rework all body/leg pieces for Viera which i think could be better time spent on other things.
Guy butt is best butt <3
Preliminary Patch Notes for 5.0 are released, plethora of information to discuss.
"So how about some cotton for my Viera's butt?"
