I'm thinking of this for my PLD also. I have played PLD since ARR and Confiteor just looks like something that I have to try. 800 potency (as of now) AoE hit? That just sounds crazy powerful.I main PLD, and the changes are SO drastic and much needed upgrades to its kit: Mobility, instant cast, gap closer, high potencies, it feels so complete with its AoE kit now. HARD CHOICE, but since I played the hell out of it, going to give DRK the playthrough, since WAR seems very much the same, so between the three tanks, going to Main DRK for this raid tier cycle.
It gets better, my dude. Req is 50 percent potency boost, so it's actually 1200 potency with NO fall off.
Instant cast on target, so you can move out of an AoE and still AoE mobs unlike the other tanks.
PLD is just too comfy for me. I'm going to raid on it, and track my performance (If you catch my drift) on all tank jobs like I did for Alphascape. But I want something different, and DRK is that different type of thing. WAR and PLD are too familiar to me, and GUN takes TWENTY levels to get to max, so for Early access, the choice is clear, for DRK.
TBH though, PLD has needed a bit of a boost in the AoE department for a very long time. We had to rely on CoS and Flash for a very long time. Adding Total Eclipse was a start in the right direction, but the additions in 5.0 seem, on paper at least, so very very good.It gets better, my dude. PLD's AoE was a god damn joke. Literally cleared ultimate with PLD, because it's kit is so amazing, OUTSIDE of AoEing. Dungeons were SUCH garbage because of it's terrible, piss poor aoe and aggro gen. Bosses facilitated the mutilation of the PLD opener, which was a joke for pulling. Now, my baby actually can use a proper opener, not be a joke in the aggro department, and have a proper ST and AoE rotation. My baby has grown up.
DRK is kind of in the same boat: Unleash until Stalwart at 72!!!! Abyssal is not spammable, but you do get Flood of Darkness. WAR again, has the most complete kit at 50. Overpower into Mythril Tempest, into Steel Cyclone or Decimate.
I'm sticking with DRK.
The rework for it is hardly revolutionary (You're basically just spamming two new OGCDs instead of Dark Arts now), but I like the big chunk of spot mitigation Blackest Night offers.
I'll try Gunbreaker to 70, then keep going if I like it or level Warrior to 80 if I don't.
I already have both my Paladin lions, so I'll be leveling that dead last among all my jobs. Dark Knight I'll probably level when I'm bored.
The only thing about DRK that ticks me off is their strongest party mitigation abilities are magic damage only when the other 3 tanks mitigate all damage. Doesn't seem fair
Going to switch main to Gunbreaker (recently Warrior), but in fact will level them all.
Will be switching to Gunbreaker. Then probably gonna level WAR>PLD>DRK (after I eventually jump it from 30 lol)
From the E3 build people commented that GNB party mitigation was also only magic damage and nerfed to 10%
