It is for me. One of the things that turns me off of Viera is how... subdued their emotes are. Objectively, it probably fits Viera perfectly, it's very elegant and proper, but personally I like the Au Ra brand of dainty and cute more. And of course the Miqo'te overacting is just pure fun, everything they do looks so extra.

I would argue Au Ra are overly effeminate in their emotes, compared to the dead-eyes/resting b*tch face they have otherwise. Further, Miqo'tes overacting is much less than Highlander which is borderline hyperactive, but you could argue a reversal would suit each race better.

I don't necessarily think Viera's animations fitting them will turn people off as much as say, wanting to play a waifu race or not liking being suddenly tall(er)

People are a draw to cute and feminine stuff in general, that's why the most three common races are Midlander, Au Ra and Miqote. If you ask me the problem with Highlander are the faces (is the main reason I finally going to change to Viera).

Anyway, after watching most Viera emotes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NejEm8c96c I totally believe some will change back to their old race because of it. Personally, I like them.

I don't necessarily disagree about what draws people to miqo'te or au ra, but I'm not sure Highlander, Elezen or Roe can be handwaved away as being "not cute".

Having watched the video, I can see your point about the animations, but I'd be surprised if it's the main reason we sadly see a return to normal service once the novelty wears off.

I don't think animations are a mitigating factor against playing any race except possibly Elezen and that's more symptomatic of their odd proportions. If animations were, however, a big draw then many more would be Thighlander as we arguably have the most expressive in the game, but it's obviously something more.

One thing I don't like about female highlanders is how they always have their hands in fists. Yeah, you can change the idle, but when you walk around and move around your hands are always in fists, it's a bit too much. I started the game as a highlander, and played until about level 50 then I changed to Au Ra (I bought heavensward and used a fantasia, actually used a couple. I tried Xaela first, but I like Raen more).

Personally I like how petite aura are. That's just my preference though, I'll play a tall character, my miqo'te was actually max height. Agreed, their faces leave a lot to be desired, I think all humans do, they look a little plain, and highlanders, I can't really place what I think is off about the faces.

One problem with taller races in this game, is how everything gets multiplied in size. It ends up looking really weird comparitively to some NPC's, and other players characters. If it was just height I'd be happy, but it makes your character really big the more height you add to the slider; Height enlarges everything rather than just height.

I am torn between lizard and bunny girls due to Au Ra cutesy mannerisms and short height.

I'm just not seeing it - after the hype settles. Also, wow there are a lot of lalafells apparently? Everytime I look at the "Show your Viera" thread everyone looks exactly the same, and like I said before no headgear and limited hair means, unlike Miqo'te or Au Ra, you have even less to differentiate yourself from everyone else. Also, because they are tall, and from what I have seen of the gear previewed in the benchmark, I think a lot of people also will not like how large everything is.

I don't see Viera doing anything, but slashing Roe and Elezen, giving a minor impact to the big ones, and fighting for third after it all settles. Roe overall is going to be hit hard, since a lot males are also going to be switching to Hrothgar.

Hands being in fists during run animation is a bit of a nitpick, even discarding that most are probably not zoomed in enough to pay attention and, with your weapon drawn, it's irrelevant.

All of the faces can look "off" when it gets down to it. Some people can't stand the Au Ra horns/scales and they have notoriously dead looking idle expressions. On top of that, they are so ubiquitous they are practically invisible and it's hard, if not impossible, to stand out.

Plenty of Miqo'te and Au Ra players will make the jump. Retention may be lower than in those from the taller races, but I think it'll be more than you assume.

Regardless, height and cuteness shouldn't be too much a concern or most would Fantasia Lala instead. Having bigger mounts and more noticeable glam should be an advantage, not the opposite.

I for one, am very excited to be able to see over the dashboard on the FFXV mount when I switch to Viera

And yeah, I went lalafell for a bit, and didn't like how small I was, my glamour didn't really stand out.

I've played the majority of the MSQ as miqote. Compared to that the au ra face is very... unemotive. Also, in the default state its kind of blankly and lethargically staring into nothing, but to be fair I did customize to emphasize this feature. Also, also, as others mentioned its most(ly) noticable in the two more popular face/horn types, one of which I'm (and you are) using.

Do note that this is only concerning the face. The body language is very cutsey and feminine in the japanese sense.

People get weirdly defensive at the idea that a race they play would become even slightly less popular. I've never seen the phrase "once the hype dies down" so many times in such a short span of time.

It's certainly pretty blah when every female character I see looks exactly the same. Same face, same hair, etc., so it will be nice to see some fresh faces. And taller women. Ones that don't look like teenagers or kids. Ones that my character wouldn't have to strain his neck just to look down at.
