Within the context of their post freaking out probably falls more in lines with showing excitement. You know holy cow I am freaking out about the gameplay of FF7 remake.
That is how I read it.

This conversation always goes one of two ways, either someone that's passionate about the game will kindly give you a brief rundown or you'll have people jumping down your throat for daring to skip a story in a Final Fantasy game. There are also two types of players, People who grew up with the franchise and play the game as a FF title first and a MMO later and those who only care about the MMO aspect of the game. I consider myself a balance of the two since I both grew up with the franchise and am primarily a MMO player, so I pay attention and care about both.
You will run into types of players that act like you kicked their dog if you dare skip the MSQ in this game, but most of the time I think you'll get people who are more understanding of the fact that not everyone plays this game like a typical FF game and is more into the MMO aspect and will have no problem giving you a rundown. If anything your OP shows that you are at least open to getting to know the story more and more interest in the game is never a bad thing.
People need to be more understanding on just how popular this game is becoming and with popularity means we are going to see a surge of players who only want to play the MMO aspect of the game. If they don't care about the story and just want to experience the MMO part of it that's fine, they aren't harming anything. Not everyone has to have the same tastes and everyone plays for their own reason, whether it's crafting, PvP or just straight up RP. I'm glad that at least your interest in the story is somewhat piqued now. Don't let the few bad apples spoil the game for you, If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Well looks like we're going to have to call up Square Enix and tell them to remove all those story skip potions from the mogstation and remove the option to rewatch cutscenes. How dare they even allow people to skip the story - the writers must be fuming.

If you skip cutscenes, why do you care? It's fine if you don't want to follow the story. But you insult it in your first post, and then you come to those who *do* enjoy the story and have paid attention wanting the Cliff Notes version. I'm with the person who says you should do your own research.
The OP stated their opinion, they even made it clear that it was an opinion and not putting it forward as fact. They come into the general forum where they know where people have paid attention to give them a run down because they know that the information given will be correct to the most part. You know, what the forum is for and has been praised to be somewhat friendly. Instead of ignoring the thread you come in here and complain because how dare they ask the general forum about it and start a conversation, wasting your own time in the process which you could have done explaining - which baffles my mind. It's a bloody game. I swear the people who get upset about people doing this are the same who get uppity on others because they didn't happen to read every single book out of a specific series or only watched the film adaption.
They were probably better off doing their research, yeah, especially with how some people freak the living heck out because god forbid someone found ARR to be boring and the likes. So, you know - kudos on making them even less likely to watch cutscenes in the future - or to utilise the forum because you get lynched for being invested in an MMO for reasons other than the main story.
Final Fantasy is a good series, but its story is sometimes subpar to others - it's a matter of opinion. And I read nothing insulting in their first post - I wish people wouldn't slap their own narrative and tone on other peoples comments.
@OP
I'm glad you got your answer, you can also check out the lore forum has a lot of good reads there. I also agree with some of the MQ being a bit boring - especially ARR, it does seem to be picking up though. I hope ShadowBringers gives you something to enjoy in regards to the main story!

You can have a question about a part or a single thing about a story, yet not care about the story itself. Especially if a lot of people are freaking out about it.If you skip cutscenes, why do you care? It's fine if you don't want to follow the story. I hope you people that are so upset over this, play every aspect of the game, as not raiding and PvPing is an insult to the team. I also hope that you guys aren't going to theory crafters about gear and rotations and are figuring it out on your own. Because why should you go to someone else if you don't care to do it yourself?
Finding something boring and uninteresting isn't an insult.
There is nothing insulting about skipping cutscenes.
I skipped most of the scenes on my main too, not because I want to insult the writers, but because reading and watching everything takes up soo much time, time that I rather spent being "productive" in this game, for example raiding with my friends, collecting mounts etc. And I simply don't want to spend more time with this game than I already do.
By your logic, people that only play the story and don't raid are insulting the producers as well.
But there is just so much to do in this game and different people enjoy different kind of things. If someone doesn't want to watch the MSQ that's fine and if someone doesn't want to raid that's fine too.
And this post is why the community...at least most of it. I don't think the idea of going to The First is ever mentioned in game, yet. So if you don't pay too much attention to the MSQ, you probably don't go out looking for story related stuff outside of the game either.
And the only times I think the other worlds really came up in conversation was in Heavensward, with the end of the storyline for the Warring Triad and after the fight with the Warriors of Darkness.
