He discussed it as recently as the art panel during the EU fanfest, as well as when it came up during the guest sessions with Yoshi during the JP fanfest, and it has come up in several interviews, including the one I linked.

When the game's story becomes self-aware:
I saw the interview and it states that they'd only be able to do 2/3 of gear. I think that if SE gets a bigger budget, or decides to sacrifice gear for something, it'll be missing genders>Customization>Graphics mostly because the graphics already look very good. Compare it to WoW lol

Yes but it's not just competing with WoW anymore, but several other MMOs (and non-MMOs) besides, some of which look very polished and allow significantly more scope for customisation in character creation. When you're asking a consumer to devote their money and time to the game, it's not just a case of what other MMO could they be playing but what other uses in general could that time/money go towards.I saw the interview and it states that they'd only be able to do 2/3 of gear. It is worth considering that the addition of the missing genders and the high res texture conversion present the same problem (converting existing assets) and so solving this issue would by implication ease the addition of the missing genders. It is also the same problem that having multiple body types per race poses. The gear output was just an example of a trade-off that could take place, with his point being that they're trying to find ways to render the conversion of assets more efficient. Thus why I say I would rather they prioritised this.

I don't think it's just as simple as "a bigger budget", maybe if they hire contractors, but what ends up happening is they end up having too much staff and start needing to make sweeping lay-offs. I'm not gonna claim to be an expert in that field, but blizzard was hit by massive lay-offs and they have a huge budget, granted I think a lot of those were community management and e-sports positions.I saw the interview and it states that they'd only be able to do 2/3 of gear.
