They've got a long, long way to go before sinking to WoW's level.
Sure there are minor nitpicks here, a few things are so easy they're practically handed to you and even a casual player can find satisfaction in a little effort for victory, but overall they've been doing a fairly reasonable job. There's a nice balance of content for players of all skill levels. I'm genuinely looking forward to ShB, something I hadn't experienced in WoW for 3 expansions running.
I realize sub count is important for an MMO. But what I don't get, is why play something intended for millions of people to play on a relatively safe level at the same time and complain about accessibility?
This isn't, say DMC. Single player with multi player elements. The challenge is there, because it's built that way. This is an MMOrpg. If you think it's too easy, then maybe it's just not for you? 1-50 customer losses over casual content isn't going to matter much against the tidal wave who come for casual content and bunny girls.
Korean mmos are pay to win, you'll have plenty challenge just trying to play the game without spending a dime.
I think it's ok for most of the stuff to be gentle and then higher difficulties optional: extreme trials (midcore), savage raids (hardcore), ultimate raids (hurt me plenty). But I kinda wish the open world mobs in field zones weren't so feeble though. They don't have to be scary but just don't make them so toothless that even a botanist doesn't need to worry about aggroing them and they give up chasing you after 3 feet to reset back to their designated position where they wait for somebody to kill them (if anyone is still doing daily hunt bills, otherwise no reason to pay attention to those enemies.)
It's always been this way. Always
Watch as OP never respond
The good thing about FFXIV is that it has a bit of everything to cater to every players. Maybe it's just housing that requires a relook at the moment, that's all.
And they can't go back to 1.0 because it is too stressful.IDK if this will be popular here, but just a quick glance at the front page of general discussion shows how far away from the original idea XIV has gone.
There is virtually no challenge outside of savage raids. There is little community aspect since everything is instanced, and people are far more concerned with minions and mounts that discussing battle startegies, since none is required.
I'm pretty old now I guess. I came up on EQ, played XI for 5 years and started XIV on 1.0. I played XIV now on and off. I resubbed this month with the expansion hype, but leveling my AST I found myself asking why. I mean, healing is no challenge what so ever. I'm mostly spamming my DD spells.
This is just venting, i suppose, but after seeing a lot of WoW refugee threads and videos I couldn't help but thinking XIV is heading in the same direction.
I, myself, will probably buckle and get the expansion, but I will 100% be playing Classic in Aug. and Pantheon whenever that comes out.
TLDR: The challenge is gone and with it the community.
I'm seeing pretty much what I thought I would. You don't have to agree with my opinion, but offer your own instead of 'wishing their was a dislike button'.
Also, community isn't the same as sub numbers. There might be more people playing than ever, but be honest, what community interaction do the MAJORITY of people have besides standing in their city of choice and waiting for their queue?
I understand the game is trying to cater to more people, which is exactly my point. WoW streamlined everything and in the end Classic is being released for all their efforts. A 15 year old product is more appealing to the playerbase than the current version. That's what I don't want for XIV.
It doesn't have to be DMC ball busting hard, but come on, dungeons and 24 man content is brain dead outside of the 1st week of release.
