They haven't really done anything with chocobos barring the increased inventory space and being able to queue for stuff with them in the party in a dog's age. And pet AI is already the bane of their existence. While it'd be neat, I don't see us having a companion like that outside of quests as an non-interactable NPC.

Like the OP, I too would love some other options besides good ol' Paprika the Chocobo. But until they fix the incredible dumb pet AI (dur hur fire on ground let me run TO it), I don't really want a cool looking pet that makes me want to turn it into dinner like my walking happy meal Paprika.
