So, for people who logged into ARR at launch using 1.x characters, did you retain your levels?

Did it let you keep your gear?

Did the ARR MSQ still start off the same way, from level 1?

Did you get to go through the MSQ as whatever level you were when the legacy servers went down?
I was one of the soft legacy players. My computer wasn't the happiest thing in the world before the game shut down for ARR work. So I missed out on the end the things, but I did have a decently high leveled Paladin and White Mage around that time and they kept their levels and I think gear. So ya my beginning of ARR was the same as every one else's who wasn't a legacy player.

And yes I did. I smote everything with my near 50 lvl charas. It wasn't until later that I realized had I done it with another class I could have saved all of that XP for it instead. XD

I remember walking into Sastasha in ARR and people accusing me of hacking because I was in full WAR AF.
    Good times.

    Clearing up a few things:

The "Legacy Tattoo" which is also called "Mark of the Twelve" or /lmark in the game is for any character created in 1.0. One of my FC members has it who created his character at launch but stopped before he got far and never did any of the 1.0 story-lines. It isn't tied to legacy account status as any alt I create now doesn't have it.

In order to get the special CSs and mentions in ARR (and a few in HW) that recognize you as a 1.0 character you had to complete the Seventh Umbral story-line and defeat Nael. If you didn't the game treats you the same as a character created 2.0+.

The 1.0 Gobbue mount was a reward from a limited time quest in 1.0 with the Wandering Minstral. If you didn't complete the quest you didn't get the mount. The game was still no-sub for part of the period of that quest (it was up for a few months, I think). Edit: actually the no-sub I'm remembering may have been just a Welcome Back Campaign week.

"Legacy status" was granted to people who subbed a minimum of three months once the game started charging. Legacy status includes a permanently reduced sub price and the "legacy chocobo" which is a chocobo with black wing tips and the legacy mark on his beak. The chocobo is a account bound so any character created on a legacy account gets it. There is also a badge on your login page that indicates Legacy status.

Any player with Legacy status could sign up to have their character name or whatever name they wanted in the ARR credits, but it wasn't automatic. I'm a procrastinating procrastinator who procrastinates so my 1.0 character name isn't in the ARR credits.

Levels, gear, etc were retained for all 1.0 characters, although everything in your inventory was kicked to the Calamity Salvager (hence the name). Materia became cracked materia that could be traded in for new ones of the same level. Characters only retained 10% of the gil they had on them before the server save.

The ARR job quests and MSQ started from level 1 just like everyone else.

The job quests had mostly the same basic story in 1.0 and 2.0. The exception to this was whm, which was completely different and dealt with the Sixth Calamity and the coming Seventh.

If you bought the original version of FFXIV, you were given ARR(PC) for free.

Google probably isn't helping b/c the original version of the lodestone was deleted a few years ago. Some of this might be on the internet archive?

    hmm, I think that's it?

Other than that there are some perks:

Not mentioned are the Goobbue mount and Legacy Tattoo:

The most interesting part of 1.0 was its completely different gameplay, graphics, and story:

Legacy tattoo makes me sad I didn't give the game a shot sooner. Doubt I'd have stayed long, knowing what I do, but it still would've been neat.

Oh well. Really cool that they did all of that for legacy players, though.

Also anyone who had used a 1.0 buddy pass was treated as if they had purchased the game in 1.0 (I never bought 1.0 version was given a buddy pass and have legacy status)

How different were the jobs skill base and abilities jumping from 1.x to 2.0? IIrc I heard PLD and BRD could heal pretty decently, despite in 2.0 cure was pretty weak on them as cc skills? Was it hard to adjust from the changes?

Kept all my gear, levels, etc. Logged out on 1.x servers on my 50 DRG, logged in on a 50 DRG!

There's a couple things I can recall being different from standard 2.0 MSQ... there's a small extra voiced cutscene with Cid before the Garuda fight, where he mentions he remembers you, and flying you to the 1.x Nael fight. Minfilia remembers you, but talks about why it's best to keep who you are a secret. Everything else is just passing dialogues about how familiar you seem mostly. Oh, and then in one of the last Praetorium cutscenes there's a dialogue between the GC leaders and Cid; the GC leaders remember you, and Cid says something about you having saved the world twice. It's only in the base 2.0 MSQ that there's any differences at all though, once we started getting 2.x patches and onward, everything was exactly the same.

Things were interesting as a WHM, we used to have a skill/spell called "Sacred Prism" it turned out next Protect/Regen/Stoneskin spell into an AoE effect... I think it worked on other spells but I can't remember. Stone actually Combo'd into Stone II, and Aero into Aero II... Acc caps weren't in 1.x so WHM could DPS freely in all versions of FFXIV except ARR where they would miss horrendously without Acc melds :3

I rem reading about Sacred, wasnt there like a thm equivalent that turned single target offensive spells to aoe as well?
Also, I do remember missing with spells like Energy Drain, in coil it was horrible, when it happened. Seen a lot more Aero misses though. IIrc they started to add accuracy to caster/healer gear around the soldiery point because of those factors lol.

I started fresh with a new character.

I miss out on my tattoo but my legacy character is still around if I decide to level him further.
