I have had a Steam account for years. I bought FF XIV when it was on sale about a year ago. I have had little to no issues with Steam though I have been told to avoid buying ESO on that platform. Otherwise it has been a pleasant experience with other MMOs like Warframe and other single player games with multiplayer. It's really not as bad as people may say it is. However, I hope that they don't go through with the changes brought up by this thread, otherwise we're going to have an ESO situation on our hands.
I bought game in Steam more than 5 years ago, when there were 0 warnings about it. Back in March of 2014 it was almost the start of Steam version existence (released in February 2014) and there also were not any expansions yet so no possibility to know that in 2015 we will find out that we are completely stuck to it. Honestly, when I bought the game, there was not much info even about the game itself, what to say about its versions.
Also, Steam Version had regional prices for subscription in few countries with bad economic (Russia and Brazil specifically had noticeable discounts that were appropriate to our monthly wages) until 2017 (were removed in summer 2017) which was a reason for some players as well.
