Personally, I absolutely would not. I'm excited about ShB, and it's the first time I've been excited about an MMO expansion in a LONG time. But if they actually do this? It might just kill that excitement.

I'm not giving up 4+ years of progress for a decision as silly as this.

I can agree with that sentiment. Also with the sheer amount of money I have spent on this account... I simply can't. Getting back all the items would probably cost between 1-2k$ because of event items costing silly amounts of money on Mogstation.

Not to mention things that we could not retake even with money in case of starting new account (like Garo that will be closed in 5.1, or PvP Feast awards, or some collaborations items like Yokai/Dragon Quest which also never were implemented in Mogstation). And well, even with this there is still one more and the most expensive resource we spent - our time.

I've been burnt by steam and their lack of information about playing FFXIV through their client.
If I knew what I know now, I would have never touched steam and would go straight to SES!
PSA to new FFXIV players, don't use steam!

I wonder why, hope it is not some agreement, or else Steam players will stay locked in. Maybe to put Steam as a platform same way as PC, PS4 and Mac can help who have steam account to extend his/her account to other platforms. Sales-wise, it makes sense.

Because Steam is treated as an entirely separate log in. It very likely was an agreement seeing Steam wouldn't benefit if they didn't have some assurance people continued to use their platform. Even if we aren't paying them directly, they can advertise to us. Either way, if SE does opt to do this at some point, there is pretty much nothing we can do except hope Steam's servers are better than they have been.

I have had a Steam account for years. I bought FF XIV when it was on sale about a year ago. I have had little to no issues with Steam though I have been told to avoid buying ESO on that platform. Otherwise it has been a pleasant experience with other MMOs like Warframe and other single player games with multiplayer. It's really not as bad as people may say it is. However, I hope that they don't go through with the changes brought up by this thread, otherwise we're going to have an ESO situation on our hands.
