Devs, Is the New Mac Client Launching Today (6/6/19)?

    Good Morning, Devs!

Is the Mac 64-bit updated client still planned for release today? If this needs to be moved to a different part of the forum, all good. Here’s the text excerpt from the Mac download information:

“Square Enix plans to support a new, 64-bit version of the FINAL FANTASY XIV application with the start of early access for FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers. Square Enix is scheduled to switch to the 64-bit version of FINAL FANTASY XIV for Mac on June 6, 2019. In order to facilitate a smooth transition, we hope to provide an early release of the 64-bit application in late-May 2019.”

Forum note: I’m aware that the performance of the Mac client is nothing compared to Windows. I’m just writing this excerpt to avoid replies such as “use bootcamp”, “use ps4”, or “$1000 monitor stand” replies.

Yes, I'd also like to know where this mysterious 64 bit Mac Client is. You said there would hopefully be an early release in May, well, May has come and gone, and here we are, June 6, 2019, the day you all said it would be here, and not a squeak, or inkling at all that it is going to arrive today. Is it actually going to arrive today, or are we waiting longer?

I have a full Windows rig with RTX2080ti cards in it for when I play at home, but I use my Mac for business, and do like to play this game on it when I can, so this junk Mac Client you all have "supported" has been a major disappointment to me, and I've been patiently waiting for the 64bit version, praying it will actually be functional.

Mac- lowest possible settings, maybe 29 fps (with eGPU with Vega 64 card in it)
    Windows - maxed-out settings, 100+ fps

Seems you could make them a tad more equal.

I spoke with FFXIV Tech Support. They weren't told about the June 6, 2019, 64 bit Mac App release, and were surprised to see the company had put a hard release date in writing on the internet about it. The support team, despite diligent efforts, had no information on its release. I was told there was most likely a delay, but since June 6th had technically not completed yet, to keep checking Loadstone, but it may be delayed until an as yet to be seen date. Also, there was no info if it would be a native client, or another wrapper disaster.

PS- if the tech support person I spoke with today reads this, "thanks for the best tech support conversation I've had in ages! You were a blast to chat with."

I'm glad you heard back from them. I'm hoping they'll update us soon.

I own my own business, so I set my own schedule, and if that schedule has downtime, why not log into FFXIV

    ;-p

I would strongly advise not to use a mac client for any game. Be it FF14, GW2, whatever... The FPS is nowhere as good as on bootcamp with custom GPU signed drivers. You can get windows 10 with an indefinite trial if you can tolerate "Activate windows" which may or may not appear at the bottom right of the screen or pay $20 for a license.

My 2017 imac that gets 60fps on bootcamp with 2k resolution set. PS: Again, make sure you are using custom signed drivers! bootcampdrivers.com is where everyone who has a mac goes to get the updated drivers (windows only). Otherwise, you'll get maybe 10-15fps using the stock bootcamp GPU drivers even when they are "updated".

Since the 64-bit application is still in active development, Square Enix cannot guarantee specific release dates or minimum system requirements at this time. We will provide more detailed and finalized information about downloading, installation, and exporting configuration settings for the new 64-bit application at a later date.

I’m surprised that we didn’t receive an update from Square Enix yesterday or today. If we don’t hear more about the new macOS client at E3 next week, I’m confident that YoshiP will speak about it during the next Letter from the Producer LIVE (currently scheduled for 06/14).
