As for blizzards next expansion, i have very little faith in them as long as ion hazzikostas is in charge. Never let a lawyer be the face of your game folks.
There are plenty fo MMOS out there that have a much more indepth character customization then FFXIV does. I just jumped into a game called Revelations Online(A Chinese MMO) that literally allows you to customize every single detail down to every pice of skin to every eyebrow and colortone. Hell it even has butt sliders. You can change the shades and colors of the eyes to how you feel while also altering the gloss of the eyeball. Even the whites of the eye can be color along with the pupil. It is a deep character customization. The game itself is subpar at best though. Hell they even give you a 5-person Cat mount XD

We really shouldn’t have this “It’s decent, so don’t add anything.” Mentality. We all want FFXIV to succeed and stay relevant for years and years to come. We want the game to be the go-to MMO for everybody. No matter how you look at it, the character customization and graphics are lacking quite a bit. Mostly the customization features.

Also, that’s quite disingenuous to say that nobody looks like your character, lol. Every once in a while you’ll %100 come across someone who looks similar to you. I know I do, even on my AuRa alt.

While the character customization is surely better than WoW, there are some key features missing that many many other competitors have. The first ones to come are different body type (weight and actual muscle sliders) and both genders for all races, both of which are something almost all popular mmos have in their character customization

I think it’s a contest between FFXIV and ESO; but they have radically different play styles that will usually appeal to different people. Competition is healthy, as is variety. I am glad the two best MMOs are different in so many ways. Industry was stifled when WoW was on top. Variety will help devs realize they have more options than copying or contrasting WoW.

Personally, I think it's biggest redeeming feature that I feel beats out it's competition quite well in is the Cross-platform play. The fact that you can be on PS4 and still play with PC plyers and vice versa as well as use the exat same characters across both platforms is what will help it to stand up to others. It's one reason I don't play ESO as much as I used to, cause I have to have different characters on the corresponding platform I play on. Same with the likes of Tera. Until other MMOs bring in this feature, FFXIV will continue to stand-out.

After more than 2 thousand hours on ESO I went to FFXIV, a bunch of my friends and guildies have also stopped playing. I think ESO is best for casual players who want an elder scrolls story. There's so many things that need to be fixed at end game (both PvP and pve) , as well as the agressive advertisements for in game shop (ex. they sell skill points on ESO's store now) and the constantly updated gambling boxes. I think FF's main competition will be from new upcoming MMOs and possibly WoW if they will be releasing a much better expansion than BfA & make so many drastic changes. FF also has the hurdle of the main story quests for new players. Once we're into Shadowbringers how many quests and how many hours of cutscenes will that be to get to the end? Not all new players enjoy the early fetch and return to waking sands quests, some will quit instead of buying a skip potion. I do think that right now with the state WoW / Blizzard is in, FF is the best MMO. But moving forward they'll have to evolve and do something about the leveling, story quests and the many other complaints people have (ex. No new healer for how many years, housing issues, PvP, combat, balancing, etc)

XIV is up there but I would never say it's the best MMORPG out there. It only copies what WoW does and doesn't dare to innovate. Content doesn't have teeth. No threat whatsoever in this game.

I mean I love FFXIV, but the MMO market right now is pretty starved for quality. There are only 4 MMO's I would even consider playing - FFXIV, ESO, GW2, and WoW. Everything else is pure garbage. As far as best MMO goes I still miss games like Star Wars Galaxies and some of the other Pre-WoW games. WoW kinda killed the MMO genre with its success.

It's certainly the best MMO for me right now.
