You won't get much with that attitude.

Commendations aren't really that big of a deal. You get a few items from achievements for getting them, but otherwise, it's just not something you should be worried about. While it's true that Healers and Tanks get more commendations, I've never seen an issue with the system as a whole. Just play your job well, be polite, and get things done.

I've honestly have received commendations for just saying "Hi" to the group before starting.

Also, don't beg for commendations. 9/10 people won't give you one if you ask for them.

I've played since about 2.5ish and as someone who runs every class run as a tank you will get 10x the amount of the others. Healer comes in second and if I don't get one as a dps I usually think meh whatever.

Why do you think that you deserve a commendation for every commendation you give out? Thats not how the system works or is supposed to work... We're asked to give out commendations to the people we enjoyed playing with - maybe they didnt enjoy playing with you enough to give you the one commendation they can give out.

Yes, the system can be "unfair" as in tanks and healers often reciving more commendations than DPS but at the end of the day the system isnt broken and people give out commendations for a lot of things - performance, attitude (saying hello, thanks for the run and goodbye), glamour, names, race/gender (I tend to commend FemRoes when I can - as long as they didnt play terrible they get my commendations for being FemRoe), being funny, giving (or taking!) advice...

At the end of the day its up to you to make an impression thats worthy of a commendation - we have an achievment that counts how many duties you've done, there is your participation-trophy. Commendations are "earned" and its not up to SE anymore to do anything about them (except add new achievments... we're stuck on the 3000 one for a while now...)

Um, I thought that commendations were the basis for qualifying as a 'mentor' ... which can make them a big deal.

This. Anyone begging for comms isn't getting one from me cause you need to earn them, not get them handed to you like candy.
And yeah, being friendly/polite or saying hello/goodbye goes a long way. Even if you use the auto-translate responses, it means at least you're paying attention.

You need 300 commendations to become a mentor, yes. But if you cant get 300 people to click a button that says "It was nice playing with this person", you shouldnt be a mentor to begin with (and a lot of people who got those 300 comms shouldnt be mentors, whole other story).
If you cant become a mentor because you dont have enough commendations you should probably review your attitude and approach to the game and other people within it and reconsider even picking up the mentor-crown...

Gonna be honest. I forgot the mentor system even exists, since my experience with it isn't stellar for various reasons. Which, being a mentor isn't a big deal either, to me, because of those various reasons. Good catch though!

To be a mentor you need one tank job, one healer job, and one DPS job at level 60 as well as 300 commendations. And if you're levelling a tank or healer to level 60 you'll probably get quite a few commendations on the way

I have over 4000 commendations just by saying hi, use my tanks and healers the best I can and for staying with new players who struggle with a new dungeon. I dont think the system is broken, just be nice with your party members.
