Honestly I don't think its just the 'casuals' who are complaining. I ran savage with a person who hated wow refugees bc they were toxic and making ffxiv unfriendly lol. Had nothing to do with ability of the player but their prejudice. Many ppl I know who have t his opinion have ffxiv as their first mmo oddly. Blaming wow for all the bad is stupid and if they would just think for a moment they would realize that wow had millions active players. A mass majority ppl who play ffxiv most likely have played wow at some point in time. But hey its the a la mode to kick wow in the dirt, so let's just stick our heads in the sand and blame them instead.

But lets be real, ppl who use wow as the boogeyman are just being smug bc ffxiv is succeeding. Obviously wow is only failing bc of their community. Totally why. Couldn't possibly be anything else. So we gotta quarantine ourselves so we don't succumb to the same fate. Logic is their strong point. Really!

Why is it that the edgy comments get the most likes? You all know this isn't true.

Now, the real reason a lot of individuals have issues with "WoW refugees" is they tend to be ruder than your typical FFXIV player. It's a reflection of their community.

I dislike the term toxic but that is the best word to describe it. It came about due to Blizzard's increasing lack of effort into WoW and their general arrogance toward their player base.

In addition, there is a lot of focus on the endgame in WoW. That puts pressure on players to level quickly and rush through the content.

The majority of the FFXIV player base does not have that focus. So, there is a big clash between the two communities and FFXIV players are tired of the drama.

That's just as stupid as generalizing WoW players.

Eh? I frequent the forums and Reddit quite a bit, and I don't see much, if any, hate for WoW refugees. Are you talking about in-game?

Only place I've seen it is here. Almost feels like some sort of organized troll campaign.

WoW has been the "devil" for some people in this game since day 1. They will always need a scapegoat. The funny part of all of this is, people on the WoW forums are all like "this game sucks now, go play FF XIV". So the hate is largely one sided.

This right here is pretty true -- just gonna copy/paste my reply from the other 'WoW thread' here since it applies and goes along with what Kacho wrote above:

Up until BfA, I was playing both WoW and FFXIV. I think there's nothing wrong with people coming to FFXIV from WoW, and while there are quite a few elitists in WoW, there are also potentially the same number (comparatively) in FFXIV. The one difference is that in WoW, people can and will outright tell someone that they're doing sub par dmg and give the actual numbers, will tell people they need to download and install DBM (calls out boss mechanics/skills so you know when to move, dodge, etc.), and even go so far as to mention to others that they are using a sub par build for the thing they're doing (PvE or PvP -- often people will use the Icy Veins builds since they're usually well researched and proven effective).

In FFXIV, none of this is possible since the game is not as transparent or accepting of mods as WoW is. Thus, people in WoW get used to being called out in detail while leveling, eventually learning to improve and also the 'proper' builds to use. Sometimes it makes everyone cookie cutter, but no more than in FFXIV where there is actually no way to have a varied 'build' than someone else. Every single level 70 of a certain job is guaranteed to have the same skills available. I think these differences make for some people who are not used to being told certain things to see some WoW 'refugees' as brash, rude, or just plain 'toxic'. In essence, from my experience in both games, I think it is just a difference in cultures and what one gets used to as they level up and run content.

Wow ppl might have ruder ppl, but I can direct you all to a few active forum users that are just as rude and condescending as a wow player. Also didnt wow at its peak have around 12mil active players? Didn't ffxiv just celebrate its 15 mil mark of created accounts, not actives ones? I mean I hate to have to point it out to y'all but wow refugees HAD to help form this community. We can't all be ex ffxi refugees. Statistically not possible.

No, WoW's number were cooked, just like FF14's.

Years ago WoW's 12 million sub number was actually legit during Wrath of the Lich King. It started going down with the next expansion, Cataclysm. In Mists of Pandaria it was back and forth for the most part but there was still a slight decline overall. They reported sub numbers up until mid Warlords of Draenor (the expansion after Mists of Pandaria) which actually started with 10 million subs...but then it got so bad (losing half the player base in 6 months bad) that they chose not to report them ever again.
